Master install kit....Does this include the gears too? Then that's a good price as long as they are timken bearings.

Labor will run anywhere from $300-600 per differential depending upon location around the U.S. The front may be a little more expensive than the rear so if a shop charges you the same for the fron then consider it a discount!

I would have a reputable shop do it even if they are $400 more than the corner garage. Gears are a skilled mechanics job, not a sloppy corner schmuck who has maybe done a few in his whole life! The Chrysler rear-end is diff from Cheby or Fords so like I said....You must have skill and there are specific tools needed as well.

Great price! Well other than the obvious tools. You will need a spanner wrench. It looks like a super long socket that has a special end on it. Can be found on Ebay for $60.
I did read that someone said they used a torsion bar from a ford escort???And it did the trick. It's for setting the bearing preload.

The kit from Moe's is a great price, Motive Gears too, if I'm not mistaken and the install kit has Timken bearings. All top quality stuff.

Install should run you about $300 an axle at a quality shop, so figure labor at about $600 if you have a 4WD.

Worth EVERY penney...

Setting a ring and pinion is about the same regardless of what brand axle you have. Although I've heard the AAM (Chrysler Corporate) axle is a little harder to shim, the procedure is still the same...

I watched the guy do Pyro's rear 4.56 gears in his truck, he forgot to shave the inside of the housing, so he had to remove the gears, shave it, and re-install the gears and it still only took the guy about an hour. But he knew his sh*t, because on the first shot, they were perfect, not a hint of a whine.

But yeah, the dealer labor books are about double what a qualified installer should be able to do the job in.

Yeah, torsion bars work great! As long as its the right size. The carrier bearings on Dodge axles use threaded adjusters unlike most other axles that use shims. It requires a very large allen head, which is what a torsion bar has. When I installed my differential, I used an old torsion bar I had laying around from my truck and it did the trick!

Just got a quote to swap out the gears and i'm looking at over $2200 and possibly more. Looks like i'm keeping the 3.55 gears and living with what I have.

Keep shopping, I know 4 Wheel Parts will quote about $2000 for gears and master install plus labor, but if you shop them and haggle a bit, they will knock about $500 off.
I got them to do 2 sets of gears, master install kit and throw in an Auburn Gear LSD in the rear for under $1500 after their initial quote was $1800 WITHOUT THE LSD about 3 years ago.
I told DodgeNitto to haggle with them after he got a quote over $2k from them and I think they did his for around $1500 or $1600.

Local 4x4 shop by me will do the labor for $300 and axle, so assuming the gears are about $200 each and $100 for the install kit, YOU should be able to find someone reliable to do this job for about $1100-$1200...
