Swapping out the 3.55 gears
Keep shopping, I know 4 Wheel Parts will quote about $2000 for gears and master install plus labor, but if you shop them and haggle a bit, they will knock about $500 off.
I got them to do 2 sets of gears, master install kit and throw in an Auburn Gear LSD in the rear for under $1500 after their initial quote was $1800 WITHOUT THE LSD about 3 years ago.
I told DodgeNitto to haggle with them after he got a quote over $2k from them and I think they did his for around $1500 or $1600.
Local 4x4 shop by me will do the labor for $300 and axle, so assuming the gears are about $200 each and $100 for the install kit, YOU should be able to find someone reliable to do this job for about $1100-$1200...
