Default help pleeeease!

having an issue with my '08 ram. when i'm in drive and my wheel is cranked, like say when i'm waiting in a drive-thru, i get a weird noise that sounds like a fan belt squeak. when i turn the wheel the other way, the noise stops until its cranked the other way. after cranking it back and forth a few times, the noise seems to go away. it only starts up again after the truck is restarted after sitting awhile. any ideas on what the noise could be?

if it were power steering you'd be hearing a slight "whine" kinda like a supercharger

But turning it to the point where it does whine and causing to much pressure on it could make a loose belt squeel. I think you need to pop the hood and have another person with you and do it to see what is making the noise.

thanks guys. i'm not really mechanically savvy, but i'm pretty sure it's not the power steering. it's not hard to turn at all and doesn't have a whine. i've had belt issues before in previous vehicles i've owned and this sounds very similar to that. i'm going to bring it to the dealer tomorrow to see what the deal is. i just hate bringing it in for service because i have to take the programer and tune it back to stock.

that's your power steering. do it a favor and STOP cranking the wheel all the way, they hate that. even if you need to make a tight turn, don't crank it if it's at all avoidable. that's all normal though.
