Default "TMR" MOD Equivilant on 2004?!

Hey guys, been lurking in the shadows for a while now because the majority of my questions have been answered by simply reviewing other's previous posts.... but decided to make an account because I have a question.

Been reading up on the <2004 "TMR" mod and was wondering what was preventing the newer models from doing it? I know that the earlier models used a seperate sontrol module to communicate with the PCM, but there should essentially be the same thing incorporated into the newer PCM then right? So why can't we just find the corresponding wire that transmits that info and snip it?

its not 'just a wire' on the newer ones. it's built into the PCM so have to overide it with software.

welcome to DF! and if you did/are serving, thank you!

Yeah, but i was thinking that there may be only one wire that transmits that particular information... But, most likely not.

I am currently serving, and thank you.

How much would an SCT or Superchips tuner help? What would be the most effective way to alter the shifting points / firmness?

The SCT wont do anything for you, its basically a blank programmer for loading tunes on. Go with the newer Superchips as they are about to release some tuning software for the trans that will be the equivelant of the TMR delete mod if you are not planning on doing a whole lot of engine work that would require a custom tune. If you are planning a new cam/heads or anything else that would require a custom tune to run properly go with a diablo preditor.

Welcome to DF, go hide your wallet now

Just noticed you have the 4.7, not sure what they are doing for that or if it will have the same trans features. At the top of the page there is a sticky for the Superchips updates, browse through that and see if they can help answer any questions.

since you have an 04, I don't think the diablosport predator can do anything for you as far as trans tweaking.
if you just want some improvement on the torque management, go grab a sueprchips 3815. They are going new for about $200 now since the new trans stuff will be 3865 or cortex only.
if you really want the new trans stuff, SC 3865 is the only way to go, and even then I'm not sure it's available on the 4.7.

i have been searching google and looking through the tear down manuels, nothing. i was thinking along the same lines as you are. its only a computer. there has to be a wire or sensor going to it.

yeah, exactly what I thought. There's gotta be something relaying the info to and from the trans... question is, is there a single dedicated wire... no luck on finding wiring diagrams for it though.

I DO plan on doing cams/headers/gears thats about it... i do want to get the engine custom tuned but be able to ALSO tune my shift points/ firmness... really dont know what my options are for that though... never messed with anything auto trans besides this.
