performance upgrades for hemi
hi guys I currently have a 2005 5.7 V8 hemi. Does anyone have any ideas how I can upgrade the truck in terms of performance? What helps the most but also doesn't cost a lot? As of now I'm putting in high flow cats and two three inch straight pipes and planning on gettin a cold air intake. Anyone know what kind of cai to go with? Lastly i almost finished swapping my auto tranny to a six speed t56 magnum manual. I'm hoping the manual transmission won't lose as much power to the wheels as the auto did. Anyway I would love to hear suggestions as to what helped you guys thank you

We have a FAQ section that will probably tell you everything you want to know, plus a ton of DIY how-to's.
Give it a good read, then if you have any specific questions, ask away...

ok thank you so if not three inch true duals what do you recommend? 2.5? No if I get a cat, headers and have my straight pipe exhaust people where saying tuning your car is a good idea? Or getting a chip? People where saying superchips is good if you only do those three mods? Lasty about my transmissoin swap you said it will help a lot. Is that because it loses less hp to the wheels or another reason besides the fact that its gears are spaced better? Thank you for your input everyone.

yes 3" duals are too big, you would want to use 2.25 or 2.5 max. dont really need to worry about new cats.
main upgrades you should start out with are intake, exhaust, then a chip. once you get those you can start worrying about bigger things, gears, torque converter, headers, e-fan, etc. then if you are really wanting to go big time, you could get a cam, heads and dyno tuning.
as stated earlier, take a look up in the 3rd gen ram faqs, tons of great info in there to get you started.

the torque convertor in the ram is garbage from an efficiency standpoint. going to a manual will always net you mor wheel hp, especially in the xcase of the ram. if you are seriously going to do heavy performance mods, you might want to do the sct tuner or possibly the diablosport ppredator as it allows custom tunes. I don't know what the flashpaq (or even the diablosport predator) will do once you pull the trans, they might not be able to adjust to the difference in programing since they both do a canned trans une on the 05

...make the manual tranny a later mod (if you still want to do it)..do what the others have said above...when you say 3" straight? no muffler? I agree, that's too much flow (inefficient scavenging)... I eventually went to 3" 'almost' true duals (3"di/3.5"so mag), but that's only cuz I did cam, heads and lt's (gutted cats) which took advantage of the flow..

if your gettin a new superchips, get the 3865, they are coming out with more options then before, especially in terms of tranny functionality.... but a used 3815 should work as well, I used one all the way up to the point when I added heads...I then needed custom tuning (i upgraded to ds predator). But i squeezed everything i could out of the superchips by adding a psc1 piggyback so I could tweak the fuel trims (went from 13.9 to 13.7 in the 1/4 this way)
