Running from the fog light holes in my opinion will not be good. For one thing, it is kind of small...another thing is that it has to curve and zig and zag to get where it needs to be.

I didn't realize you had the throttle body that faced upward! Dang, not sure how you will pull that one off....

RSS, I was thinking the same thing after I saw that. Maybe a proper application with a sledge? You can take a look at the intake I made (in my gallery). 3.5" mandrel bent steel pipe...

If I was to make it with as little curves and bends as possible I don't know how it would work. I'm just trying to force as much cool air into my intake as I possibly can in hopes of better mileage and power. I have a crap load of PVC left over from my now mocked up intake, and thought it would be a cool idea. I had to buy a 10' long pipe and figured oh well this might do something for me. Like I said my only concern with that idea is water. I don't want to soak that filter and starve the engine of air. i got the piping why not give it a shot?

Only thing you are going to accomplish is opening up the air flow. Trust me, you aren't going to see true "cold air" when the filter is in the bay. By the time it reaches the manifold, it's gonna be just as hot as the rest of the air in the engine bay. In short, do it for a less restrictive intake.

On your 5.9, you might actually want to look into an old school setup. Guys over in second gen are crazy for a 14X3 Round air cleaner, like what the cars of old had. It can be done, and if you look over in our section, you will see many ideas on how to do it.

Another thought would be to just throw a K&N drop in filter and call it a day.

Thank for the info laramie, but I don't really like the looks of the round filters. At least not on an 02 vehicle, they look good on old muscle cars but not newer trucks imo. I am going to get the K&N filter sometime soon, and since I have access to sheet metal and a bender (brain fart) I am going to fabricate a heat shield of some sort. I know it won't block all heat but it might help. Just because I'm stubborn and have the left over piping I'm gonna try the fog light idea. I'll post pics when I get it finished. Any more comments or ideas would be appreciated.

Well I have good and bad news. Good news is my intake kicks *** and I have noticed a little performance gain by using my butt dyno. But, today it rained like crazy and on the way home I decided to drive through some water. There was a drop off so I didn't realize the water was actually almost a foot and a half deep. Well water went flying out of my wheel wells and my rpm's dropped from about 3k to 1.5k in a matter of seconds. I get home to look and see that my filter is completely soaked. Any suggestions of how to keep this from happening again other than not driving through deep water.

I would really like it if people would actually reply to this and not just read it and go on. I want some info on what I should do to prevent this from happening again.

well from looking at the pic it is hard to believe that water got in there as the wheel well should prevent most of the water coming into the engine bay and its up and out of the way one thing you could try is putting some sort of plastic underneathe the cone and to the left of it but leave the top open just to try and put something between the water and the cone but other than that i really dont see how water could get to were the filter is placed
