Default this is gonna sound stupid...

i bought my truck brand new and have had it for about 15 months now and i pretty much baby it other than letting her eat out on county roads and such. yesterday i went to a buddy's house and of course we start comparing trucks with everyone there. my buddy and i got challenged to do a burnout so i took it and went out and layed some rubber, i mean really layed some rubber! i did it twice, both were really nice. anyway, there were a couple guys there with powerstroke and duramax all tuned up and even they were impressed. my question is that this was my first brakestand ever and was wondering if brakestands do any damage? i asked my friends who know alot more about trucks than i do and they said no, just that it would wear my tires down, which is ok because i've got stock on and getting new ones soon.

Trashes your Trans and rear. Get ready to replace both....and if dodge sees any rubber in the wheel wells they wont cover any warranty work! Joking man...nah, no harm done. Just wears the sneakers faster...maybe rear brakes....

The biggest "danger" with brake stands is the heat that develops in the transmission. When a torque converter is held at stall speed a lot of heat is generated, this heat can cause damage to the tranny.

The heat will also build up in your differetial and that can cause some damage as well, not to mention toasting off your rear brakes.

brakes and tires is about all.your TQ and trans will be fine. the rear doesn't give a damn, it's just transferring power like it normally does. I would say to let it cool down between smokes, but the trans and TQ would take hours to cool down, and your buddies aren't gonna wait. a trans temp gage would tell you the truth if you really want to do this often...

If you plan on doing it often spend the money and put a line lock in. It'll cost the same as the brakes you'll wear off.

You'll be fine if you only do this occasionally. If it becomes a bad habit , then I would second the line-loc idea!

..but the line lock is a very cool mod...it makes a burnout look really cool..cuz brakestand burnouts look funny cuz the're pretty slow to start with...

They're also VERY easy to install! I have one in my second gen and it's a ton of fun when leavin car shows. Not to mention you'll have the better burnout every time

when I went to the track doing a brake stand once the wheels start spinning I let up off the brake a decent amount just were you barely role forward and then let of and you continue to do the burnout without really ever putting to much stress on the brakes

As long as it's only every now and then, no serious harm done. It does stress the driveline, though.
