no doubt. Only because he has got a transmission edge over them. Once the handheld programmers come out and they've got the same control we do, then I would put my money on a '09 vs Truckin....sorry. That is unless he gets his headers/cam installed.....lol

And what up with that? A mod instigating?

Thats alright, I'd love to come across an 09 with a programmer, probably lose but hey there is always going to be someone out there that is faster than you are its just the way it is. But hey it really gives you that extra push though to try to make it as good as it can get (without blowing something up)....That being said, I'll more than likely have my cam and headers installed and the truck dyno tuned by the time the programmers for the 09's are out for the general public. Then it will just be a waiting game til the 09' guys start swaping cams and headers and all that fun stuff.

Its not that they are detuned, its that the 09's have torque management (TM) and electronic stability protection (ESP).

I had an 03 and 05 before the 09. Have to say, for ride, looks and interior, the 09 has the old Rams beat by a long shot.

For performance, my 05 had a Jet Stage 2 chip and "felt" much quicker than my 09. The crew cab is heavy, 5600 lbs. Plus, the TM keeps the full brunt of the engine’s power actually making it to the rear wheels. It allows a slip in the transmission so power is wasted. ESP keeps our tires from spinning more than a foot or so. When ESP comes on the PCM drops RPMs to limit wheel slip. We can only partially turn it off in 2wd, in 4wd it is all of the way off.

Our top speed is limited to 100 (?) mph. I never checked, but others have.

The 4th Gens don't need more power, we need modified TM and ESP. Then we can get these trucks moving. But then again, don't we all need more power too??

I am just worried that the TM is there to keep the transmissions alive.

But for me, I don’t need a fast truck anymore, I just want something to drive. I mod it visually, but since we have the lifetime warranty, I am not touching the powertrain. I may get a Diablo, but only if it increases gas mileage. There are rumors that flashes can be tracked on the 2009, so a Daiblo may leave traces and void the warranty.

Sorry I guess detuned wasn't the right wording, but they are tamed though. Almost every aspect of them from the factory has some limiter on them. Im sure once the majority of them are removed that truck is just going to fly.

That was my only complaint about the 09's though, the power they come with stock does not equal the power you get while driving, its just to restricted. The looks are great, the interior is beautiful, the ride is amazingly smooth, its almost a perfect truck. Hell I may have to throw my 05' in the garage as a weekend/track truck and get a Quad cab 09' as a familly truck and just keep it stock for the most part (would have to do a few upgrades, but nothing like Im doing to my 05')

I loved my old Rams, but I sold them for other reasons.

As with all vehicles, gearing makes a difference in the 2009s as well. I have the 3.92's and have no trouble "merging" on the highway.

Even with the 3.92's on the one I was test driving, it still didn't feel like it had 390hp on tap. Then again I am also use to my truck and mine will glue you to the back of the seat when I punch it.

Aaign I have nothing against the 09's, they are a sweet truck, they just need to be woken up a bit before I will look at them again.

That actually might have been the case I couldn't hear a thing. My radio was cranked and my vacuum cleaner intake was sucking air like none other. So I couldn't tell if he was gettin on it or not but by god I was ahead! Now I feel like an idiot though, THANKS GUYS! lol

Something to add. V8440 ran a 14.0 in a Hemi regular cab 2x4. Stock. That is a very good time.

They are "de-tuned" (if you will call it that) to a certain point because of emissions. Every new vehicle has that problem.
We all have the TM issue going on. Just the '09's started the ESP which can be removed in any vehicle. There's either a fuse/relay or wiring involved that can be intercepted.
Jet chips=Junk.
Ride quality is exactly what they were going for at the cost of payload and towing.
Looks....All opinion.
No water marks for the '09s. They cannot tell what you had prior to bringing it to the dealer OTHER than the memory had recently been cleared which is not something that will cause a void in warranty. It's the same as having a dead battery or clearing out codes.

I would not own another Ram without a tuner. Absolutely not. The advatages of having one are priceless because of control of MDS(on/off) transmission control, and added power for same mpg's. Buying a tuner for better gas mileage is a joke regardless of what vehicle you own. other than a diesel because those things can be tuned to wipe your *** basically....lmao
