Default Awd

Hi
I recently purchased an 04 QC ram 4x4 with the hemi. It has the electronic transfer case. I have the one with the AWD. Does this mean that the truck is full time all wheel drive? Is there any way to run in 2wd?
Thanks

millertime363,

I saw your post earlier today but had no idea myself. So, I went over to the Hemi Truck club forum and searched a little. There are some threads about the AWD Ram over there as well as a reference to even another forum where the issue is discussed even further; but info is rather scarce overall.

What I was able to surmise, if I understood things correctly that is, is that your AWD works similar to my electronic "AUTO" mode. In "Auto" the transfer case and the front drive shaft are connected but the front differential is connected by the computer ONLY when there is more than a specified amount of slippage at the rear. Even then it is not a true 50/50 power split.

I don't think the two systems are exactly the same, "Auto" and "AWD", but the explanation on the other forums made them sound very similar.

I hope this helps some; or at least directs you to some help.

some people have brought this up before. There are some AWD rams out there as far as I remember. Reading. Rare, but im guessing to go to 2wd you will probably need to disconnect the front driveshaft. Or maybe swap out the transfer case with one from a 4wd truck.

My ram is AWD. You cant disconnect the front driveshaft. I forgot why but its connected by a rubber boot and if u did the transfer case would be wide open.
