Default New 3rd gen owner, looking for some advice.

hey guys I just got an 07 1500 hemi a few months ago and Im looking for some good advice for some cheap mods for it. I dont want to do an exhaust simply because Im afraid Ill have too much drone in the cab. I take a 4 hour round trip every weekend with 2 young kids so I cant have that. I heard something about a 50hp mod chip that can be done. Is this true? If so, how good is this chip, how much does it cost and where is the best place to get it? I cant afford a full exhaust system right now, so is there a muffler that I can replace the stock one with that sounds good and does not have much if any drone in the cab? It doesnt have to be loud, but if im gonna replace it, it has to sound good. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum buddy, post a few pics up of your ride when you can, we can help you out with some mods easily once we have pics

Also, on the muffler request, I would say Flowmaster as I have a 40 series but that is loud so you probably don't want that. I think you would want something more towards a 50 series, if I remember the sound of it correctly. You will also get some mixed reviews from members between flowmaster and magnaflow and a couple others out there.

I am getting a 50 series HD muffler from flow master. its $172 and the instilation im going to pay is about 90. there are several videos of people who have this muffler on youtube and i heard both the inside and outside views and thought it sounded pretty good with minimal drone. hope this helped

Thanks for all your replies. I looked at the 50 series and I think the 50 HD may be the way to go. About how much does it help the fuel mileage? Does it affect the MDS? I know some ppl dont like it, but I need to keep it for my highway driving. If it helps the MDS work better, then I can live with the drone if any. Also anyone know about the 50hp mod chips? Ill get some pics up as soon as I can, Im going to go wash it tonight after work

Not too sure about any of those except that if you get better gas mileage, you really won't see a big difference.

The 06+ rams have completely different muffler requirements than the 02-05 rams. When MDS kicks in it sounds like azz and drones horribly.

I recommend you get a cutout. You can open it up to make noise when you want. And you can leave it closed for the kids, when you're coming home late at night, etc.

I hated the flowmaster, and they rust quickly. I went with a cherry bomb vortex. Flows MUCH better and sounds incredible. but if you dont want loud you may not want this. it is not bad in the cab but it is plenty loud outside

+1 on the cutout. The magnaflows I have on mine are not loud and I think they sound good. I also have the cutouts so anything is quieter than those bad boys.
