Default 20" tire question

I bought my Ram with only 10k mi on it, and now it has around 25k. I took it in for an oil change and tire rotation and the mechanic said that I will have to replace all 4 20" tires in the next 8-10k miles. Is this right?? Less than 35k on a set? I know it's a heavy vehicle, but it's not like I take it out street racing and spin the tires every week. Anyone have any fact/opinion on this? This is a damn expensive replacement item I'll have to prepare for.

I have 22,000 miles on the original set of 20" goodyear HP's and they have at least another 10,000 miles to go, so ignore the obviously ignorant comment made by the mechanic. And to let you know, I drive like a maniac, I dont always burn the tires but I do drive it hard around corners and such.

Another ill advised attempt by your local dealer to sell you more tires, make sure you DONT buy them from them when it is time to replace them!

I have 50,000 miles on my 20s. and still plenty of tread, about 1/16 left to the indicator, I rotate them every 12000 mile and bumped the pressure up to 38psi.

Dumb question, but the pressure listed on the door panel for the tires, is that taken cold or warm tires?

The tire pressure is for cold tires. But for every 10 degrees in outside temp they change around 3 to 5 psi. I check mine in the moring before I do any running around.

Ramrod02's mechanic told him he will need tires at 33,000 to 35,000 miles....
Vipersforsale tells him not to listen to him because he is going to get at least 32,000 miles on his.....

I kinda figured that the mechanic was only trying to sell me tires by the time I take it in again. He did mention that when he rotated the tires, the rears were worn down about 80% and the fronts around 55%. I keep the psi at around 38-40 and nothing less than that. As for the temperature.. I live in San Diego and the streets get neither too hot or too cold, so the fluctuation on the pressure won't vary quite as much. At least not like when I lived in FL where the street temp. was over 100 degrees day in and day out 6-8 months out of the year.

Not a huge concern, just wondering if my wear and tear was the same as others driving out there. I'll probably spend more on gas in the next 10k miles to pay for a new set of 20's!! LOL!
