Default engineeeee

i have a 03 ram 2500. it has a v8 5.7. the engine i guess blew. i took it to the local shop and they keep telling me i need a new engine (8k). the engine wornt crank at all. when it blew it chugged like some piston were blown. HELP please....

Need new engine, any 5.7 hemi from 03-05 will drop right in.

it would be nice to know exactly what you want help with but I know i wouldnt pay 8k for an engine. I would check the junkyards or even ebay or craigslist and drop it in myself.

can't beat THIS deal. Just pull the trans off and swap a few accessories.

for 8k rip that engine out have it machined, stroked and throw some 2.02 heads on it with a nasty cam

If you like the truck and everything else is in good shape, then yes, replacing the engine is much cheaper than buying a new truck.
I would check into either a good low mileage used engine, a crate engine from Dodge, or a remanufactured engine from someone like Jasper engines.
With labor, I'm thinking more along the lines of 3K to 5K depending on which engine route that you go. Also, it depends on where you are located. 8K Canadian is a different story as well.
