6" lift.
I'm posting for a friend he has an 04 1500 4x4 with 3.92's in her. He wants to do 6" of lift all suspension. Any good brands to look at for the 3rd gen? Cost? Any special tools needed? About how long would 6" take to put on. How large of a tire can he run with 6" of lift. I was thinking around 35"-37". How tall of a gear can he fit in his truck. I saw something about 4.56 being the limit for the front?
He helped me do my lift on my 01 1500. It is a 3" suspension from top guns so we know what where doing a bit.

A LOT of people running the Fabtech which is a decent kit, especially for the money. Only reservation is that Fabtech/Superlift is currently in bankruptcy, meaning repair/replacement parts could be an issue down the road.
I think the best of the 6" kits out there is the Skyjacker, which is also the only 6" kit that lifts a "true" 6" on the torsion front trucks, meaning if he's thinking 37s, then this is the one that will fit 'em with no additional work (trimming, wheel spacers, etc.). Of course, it's about the most expensive one...

Also, installing a lift is FAR from the knowledge and tools needed to properly install differential gears. i would think twice before cracking a diff cover open to install them yourselves. Installing gears is a multi step process and you need to know what you are doing. if you have all the components (ring/pinion and bearings kit) then a garage will charge about $6=800 for the actual install. just make sure they will warrant their work against improper installs like a whining gear. if they tell you that whining or gear noise is the nature of 4:56's then they are lying. It's all about the install. Ask them first or else they will install them and not offer to redo the work if you did have any noises or vibrations. if they ay buying from them is the only way to warrant the work, then go elsewhere's. no reason to give them additional money that they tack on the cost of the product just so they can recover any future losses if you follow???.
He went to auto school near me for a few years and worked at pepboy's. I don't think he really has a budget he's now in the iron workers union and makes VERY good cash. He has wanted to lift he truck for some time now but his wife (yes his wife) is pushing him to get one on. I'll have to tell him to check out sky jacker. He wants to run 20" wheels and other good brands to buy? I told him toyo m/t. He wants a mud tire but not a loud mud tire.

Where can I find a wife like that!?!? She must want something after he gets the lift. Sounds like a possible guilt trip for him after he spends all this money. Or she could just be the coolest wife ever!!
Its funny about gears, its not super hard to do. You just need to know your math calculations, have a little patience, and have a gear install kit(The tools I mean not the bearing kit). Ive seen it done. Not too hard but also not something that somebody thinking, "ya I should be able to do it" should try. Good luck and have fun.
