Default Adding to coolant

Just went through a whole bunch of back and forth with the dealership regarding a cooling problem, which went from one thing to the next.. Latest problem turned out to be a blockage in the heater core.
Question is... The expansion tank is about a half inch below the cold fill range.
... is Prestone's Dex-cool ok to add to the stuff that they use at the dealership? (I have some left from when I did the T-Stat)

And did I read somewhere to use distilled water to mix it with?
02 ram 1500 4.7

Thanks Guys.

Just get the Prestone stuff that mixes with any color.

And yes, distilled water is best to use as there are no contaminants to hurt the insides of the radiator as Dexcool does in Hammer's link.

+2 on distilled water and NO Dexi-crap. The Prestone for all makes and models is what I would get as well.
I would just add the distilled water if it is only a little low in the overflow bottle like you said.

HOLY COW...
I just got off that link that Hammer posted above... The Dex is what we used when we did the thermostat this time last year.... low and behold, 6 months later, warped heads, clogged radiator, and now most recently the clogged heater core.

Probably just speculation that the coolant was the culprit, but, there's no substitute for good research. I wish I saw that last year.
