second posting of this and i really could use any help possible, thanks, ok i have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4, with the 4.7L v8 and automatic trans, and it over heated and threw a rocker out from under the cam on each side and damaged a head and valve cover, and for the price of getting a head, all the gaskets and valve cover i can get a 5.7L hemi (from a 2005 dodge durango, auto, 4x4) from a friend for $1300, so i want to drop it in, so what im asking is what do i need to get, change, etc... and do's, dont's, tips, tricks, etc... i was told the trans will work that i already have in the truck, and that it will bolt to the same engine mounts, i know the engine accessories are a different configuration, can any of the 4.7 accessories be used, like the alt, starter, ac comp, i also know the engine computer has to be changed to the 5.7 one, but does the trans need anything different, will anything else need to be changed or fixed, cuz i was told by the friend that all of the dash, trans and everything wont work even if i get the engine computer for the 5.7 put in, so idk whats what with that to know if its true, so any help, knowledge or tips would be very helpful, thanks

hey iam in the same thing right now i have an 2002 ram 4.7 4x4 and did a swap to 2005 the 2002 trans bolted right up but iam having problems in the 2005 ram the motor ran perfect now in my 2002 the motor surges from 1000 rpms to 1500 bouncing and also wont go passed 2500 rpms pulled everything out of 2005 all as one unit wiring and everything the only things i DID NOT change were the trans 2005 was not 4x4 and my 2002 was but the wiring pluged right in and also the inside cab but that also plugged in and all the gauges work and also the ob2 scan tool reads the 05 motor so what do you think can be my problem and also can the dealer flash the computer to reade my 2002 maybe please help it starts right up but idle surges and wont go past 2500 rpms

 

yes i am doing the swap and yes the trans are the same 45rfe but is your 2005 motor and harness 4x4
