Do you know your rim width? I wouln't put a 12.5" width on an 8" rim. Widest for that would be an 11/11.5"

U can put whatever you'd like, but a 12.5" wide tire isn't made for an 8" wide rim is all. i think you have 8" wide wheel?????? Please correct me.

I asked a guy at an offroad shop here, if i should get new rims for my tires, cause my rims are 8 inch wide, and the guy said i didnt have too. Not sayin Doggs wrong but this was a guy that coulda sold me knew rims. But 12.5 35s on my 17x8 cragars and about 500 miles with them on so far and no problems. Come to think of it, the guy i bought them from had them mounted on 8" wide mickey thompson classics. Again not saying its right but so far its been good to me.

Click on THIS link. Then click on specs. You will see that 8.5" is the narrowest rim reccomended. Again, u can put whatever you want on any rim, but the problem is wear. Too wide of a tire on a narrow rim begins to create a rainbow effect where the center is buldged and will wear faster. It's inevitable and will happen. Maybe it's minor and you may not notice much of it, but you will wear out a set of tires faster by going too wide. I would sit back and relax with a set of 305's personally.

really dog?? 305's they are wider than 295's? by a inch with a 8 inch rim your opinion 305-70-17 or 295-70-17? i want the safest bet but the biggest bet the 4"lift is not big but dont want dinkey tires

ramhunter you're not going to want to go over a 265. 265 is roughly 10 1/2 inches which would place 1 1/4 of tire on each side of the wheel.

A 305 is wider than a 295. The higher the number the wider the tire. Even with a 265 if you have a 35" tire with an aggressive tread, they'll look fine.

A 12.5" wide tire on an 8" wheel will fit, but you WILL cup that tire over time. The other risk you run is to lose the bead seal. If you are the type who goes off-road and air your tires down for mud, rocks or sand, you will multiply the chance of loosing the seal tenfold...
