Default Removed the CAI....

Some of you know....I started out modding my 2008 4.7 with an eBay intake, then did a homebrew job with 3" tubing and a K&N filter on the end. I also have a Magnaflow Y-pipe and a Thrush two chamber SI/SO muffler.

It seems that the truck lost some of it's low end grunt after these mods. I did have 3.21 gears, and I upgraded those to 4.10s. The low end still seemed to be lacking.

Well, yesterday just messing around, I put the stock intake set up back on. I installed the hat and the stock airbox with the snorkel taken out, and a K&N drop-in.

The butt dyno tells me that the pep is back. And the obnoxious CAI sound is gone. I am surprised that the CAI was causing that issue. Now I may still get rid of the hat but I will use 4" tubing from the throttle body to the stock airbox.

Just wondering if anyone else experienced any low end torque loss after doing any mods. The exhaust is also quieter with the stock intake...I imagine that it is getting less air, but it sure as hell feels stronger to me.

I noticed something similar on my truck, the intake bumped the powerband into higher rpms. It doesn't bother me since my truck is a manual and I like the extra power in the higher rpms.

I've read this before with the smaller engines, 4.7 and V6's, you're not alone... Doesn't make sense to me, but there are plenty of threads on here and other forums that will agree with you...

I got a loss in low end grunt with the hemi after installing a cutout, it pulled nicely up top but lowend really suffered for a while. Im thinking you probably opened it up to much, What size exhaust did you go with?

I am using the stock pipe which is 3", so the Y-pipe is 2.5" in and 3" out...

The muffler is 3" in/out. It does make a difference because the exhaust is louder with the CAI. It is still throaty now, but definitely quieter with the stock airbox and hat set up.

Your tb is bigger than 3" and Im sure you seen that your accordion hose is larger than 3" as well as the opening of your 4.7 hat..When you decide to install the 4" mit tube version you wont have that problem. I did the mistake and installed a 3" mit tube before and noticed a loss also. I have a homebrew 4" I use and also a true flow mit tube..Both are better in throttle response than my 3" homebrew.

The TB opening is about 3" for sure...I know because I used a 3" sleeve to connect the 3" PVC to it.

The opening out of the 'hat' is 4" going to the airbox.....that whole accordian tube is 4" diameter.

If I do eliminate the hat, I will need a 3" to 4" adapter which is no problem. That will be on my to do list....I am liking the pep I am feeling now.
