IDK what the scary part is about changing all the dirty , varnished oil in a high mileage trans. to me , get all the old crap out of there so you can start clean. thats just me, but i am not sure , maybe there is a reason to leave some old oil in.

i dont see the problem with flushing a high mileage tranny, as long as it is done with a pump inlet machine by a capable mechanic it is the way to go. the problem with some trans flushes is when they dont drop the pan, they just push everything throught the tranny, this loosens up all the crap which can stick in the valves and what not... so if they use a pump inlet machine they have to drop the pan to hook it up, and if you get a good shop they will look things over, clean the valves up, and run a diagnostic test...
i looked everywhere for a place by me that did a pump inlet flush, and couldnt believe that some of the tranny shops didnt even know what i was talking about. finally i found a shop, and they did everything for $180... in 30000mi i'm going back there to have it done again...

Not that I agree with it but my book says at 100,000 change the fluid.

cheapbeater hit the nail on the head about how some trans flushes dont drop the pan, they just push everything throught the tranny, this loosens up all the crap which can stick in the valves and what not.
That's what can happen. Not definately......but can???
Too much of a risk for me.

Maybe you're looking at kilometers -- the '06 shop manual says "drain and refill... and change main sump filter" every 60K miles. The interval was doubled in '04 or '05. The '03 manual says every 30K for the tranny and 15K for the diff.
