Yep.
Don't go for a flush.
Drop the oil, change the filters and replace/top up with new transmission fluid.
That way, you get to replace at least half the tranny fluid.
Apparently, don't know if it's an urban myth or not........?
Flushing high mileage trannys for the first time can fry em'.
That's why I believe, most people just drop the pan.
I dropped the pan and filter changed my 03 at 72K miles and she has 97K on her now.

So what you are saying is that I have to drop only half of the fluid? Can anybody help me with that? What tools to use? What transmission fluid? How to make it right?

By dropping the pan you will only change half the fluid. There is still old fluid in the TC and lines.

Ah, yeah. The book says every 30K. Make sure you get the right filter. Not sure what tranny you have, but often the filters are different for the 4x4s. Ditto on the "no flush". Too many miles on it now. You could let the pump flush it for you. Sounds more time-consuming, though.

I'm asking because I heard somewhere that you should not do it.
So I should flush it or just drop the pan?
I found those instructions http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech-article-39.html

One of the weakest components in a Dodge truck is the automatic transmission. Keeping it cool and clean and not overworking it are the best things you can do for it.
I'd change the fluid, use a full synthetic and do it at least as often as the recommended intervals.
You can beat most Chrysler engines to death and not pay a price, but you don't keep up with maintenance on the tranny and you are asking for trouble...
