For the EGR valve, I replaced mine over the weekend, wasn't hard and it smoothed out my idle quite a bit. Had to buy it from the dealer though, everywhere I went did not have one in stock, and when I ordered one from checker they couldn't get the order filled.
It may also have to do with the weather changing. How cold is it up there now? I know when we start having colder weather here my mpg drops about 1mpg or so.

I had a 2005 Ford F150 FX4 and that thing was no better than my 2002 Ram 5.9 liter---and the RAM has real power at the boat ramp, lots of room, more power plugs, more beer/cup holders and rides better.
The Ford got 12/13 around town and 9 pulling my boat to Trampa and the Keys. RAM 5.9 (also a 4X4) gets same mileage and is much better truck !!!

I was averaging around 11-12mpg when I first got my truck, after the first few mods that would affect my mpg it went to 12-13 while I ran a few tanks of 89. . .I've now put a tank of 87 back in it and am running the 87 tune with my cortex and love how it drives so far, just past 3/4 tank so I'll repost once I refill. I'm hoping for at least 13-14 ^_^ haha, I can dream can't I ?
I haven't changed plugs, cleaned tb, or replaced/cleaned the egr valve. Still running stock P265/70/17 wrangler A/T tires(psi usually around 37-38). Probably because I just turned over 6500 mi. so far . . . I'll check my TB out this weekend though, just for kicks.
Oh this is with about 70/30 street/highway driving so . . . yeah.
