Sounds like she's comin together. For sealing stock Trans Pan the best IMO is the Dealer "Tranny Fluid Specific" Mopar RTV, no leaks, but like you said if I ever go with the deep alum pan I will make me a gasket. Power Steering uses ATF+4 for fluid too.

Quote: Sounds awesome. I have a few questions as I am doing my swap to the same exact truck with the 07 Hemi and trans. Did you have to modify your oil pan and why and how? Also did you go with an electric fan to get more hp? What headers fit in the engine compartment? Do you know anything about the OBX kit on ebay that comes with the CATs, headers and y-pipe?

FYI I replaced all of my wiring with the 07's and put in the complete dash as well instead of doing all the research for pin outs.

Thanks
well which year truck and is it 2wd or 4wd, cuz any 2wd will take the hemi motor no problem, the only problem with 4wd is that it is really really close to the front axle housing on all sides, in fact with the stock motor mounts it pretty much touches, that why i did some custom motor mounts, they are basically bolt through plates that actually raise the motor about a 1/4 inch, that along with some "massaging" on the pan i have nearly a half inch all around the pan, ill try to get a couple pics tonight and throw them on the photobucket account i setup for this project, the link is at the bottom

well have fun with the wiring, it is quite the hand full, i have nearly half done when i kinda gave up and enlisted Chris Squier's help from Hotwire Auto, he knows his stuff if you have any questions on the wiring, he pretty much has most of it memorized! believe it or not, but changing out the dash and wiring will def make it easier for you, you will have to change the LDP to the NVLD system for your emissions system, not that hard, find an 05 complete assembly from a used parts place, cuz it will bolt right up in place of the old one, you will have to re-pin that connector and i have the diagram for that if you want it, its only 3 wires so that one is easy, you will eventually want to change out the fuel pump to a 05 and newer one, due to the older ones have less fuel pressure, so you will run lean until you change that, and you will need many trips to your local hardware store for fittings, hoses and clamps to make everything adapt, for example all the vaccum and cooling lines are similar, just different size hoses or fittings

i did go with the electric fan for some more power and more air, plus its makes the engine bay cleaner and bigger

and as for the exhaust its your setup that will be the biggest challenge, cuz you have to have the right one, or u will end up like i did with a useless header, the 03-04 hemi headers will have them clear the driver side starter setup, and the 05 and newer ones will only clear the passenger side starter, so make sure you read the ebay auction where you saw those OBX headers closely! i saw that kit you want and i thought about it, but for my setup i want the most flow, so i made mine with full 3" all the way back, with high flow magnaflow cats and summit racing glasspacks, its not hard, just a little time consuming, but its also cheaper and sounds so much better!

hope that helps a little, ill be here for anymore questions though

Question ?
I want to build my exhaust system today.I have stock exhaust manifolds.I would run
headers, but I can't afford them right now. I do want to build my system with no Catalytic
converters.My computer is set up for "4" 02 sensors. 2 upstream , 2 Downstream.
My question is "What will it affect"by not running Cat. converters.
I thought about running the two that go behind the Cat.converters behind the muffler. Would that be the best place for them? Will it work?
Thanks.....HemiDak-Quad..

yeah i didnt want to run cats either, but i did, just cuz i know ny is strict on our inspections, but i made them removable, i made identical pieces that have cat and no cat, took a little extra pipe, just two pipe clamps and i can take them out, now as far as the 02 sensors, there really is no way to trick them, the only thing i can think of is putting the down stream up closer to the exhaust manifolds, the extra heat might work to make it think its behind the cat, i cant say for sure but that was an idea i just had, the other would be to put it really far back like you thought of, the muffler wouldnt make a difference, unless it was something restrictive, maybe like a chambered one, cuz that would build up heat, so it might work the same as putting it closer to the headers, now this is all speculation, cuz i dont have time to test my setup to see if it works, but those are the only two ways i think it might work, but the stock cats are actually pretty much high flows anyways i have been told, so grab a couple of used ones for your inspection and then cut them out after, or make them removable like i did! hope this helps ya out possibly

I have the same truck as you, an 02 4x4 1500 Ram. I can see now where the oil pan would be a tight squeeze. I Just put the new dash in today and replaced the wiring to the doors, new abs module, headliner and dash wiring and everything plugs in and routes perfectly. I am putting in the steering wheel tomorrow and splicing and ectending the electric gas pedal harness. I gotta say the dash looks sick too in the 02 body - better then I though it would. I am looking for the 06-09 battery tray that will accept the newer fuse panel. I am also going to use the 07-09 smog/vaccum setup because of the MDS engine. Good call on the fuel pump. I am swapping out the wriring harness that goes from the firewall to the rear of the truck anyways. What electric fan setup are you using? Thanks for all of the details on your setup.

well def good that your changing every wiring harness and system, it makes a world of difference trust me! adapting and modifying takes way more time!! to be honest i would never do the mds hemi swap, because i would never want or need it, but to each his own, but at least you will gain a few mpg's out of it, well alot compared to the 4.7l! i could never find that engine bay harness that connects everything in the engine bay and goes to the fuse block and then on back to the fuel tank, etc... i did find a few after i bought the conversion one from Chris Squier though, darn irony! but anyways, you should be fine, from what i can tell your on the right track, when u change the fuel pump and LDP to NVLD for the evap system in front of the fuel tank u will need to repin that connector that goes to that assembly, unless u are changing that harness too, it connects to the engine bay harness under the driver side cab and goes back to the fuel tank area, if u change the harness u wont have to change it though, so if u can get that harness do it, it will save u some time, i have the repin diagram if u need it though, its real easy too, and i have a flex-a-lite 19inch electric fan setup, i got it from summit racing, when i got it it was part of a kit that came with the relay and some wiring and a switch, i grabbed a flex-a-lite thermostat too, altogether it was about 150, but its new and it looks and works great, moves like 2100cfm!!

well my opinion you could have purchased a supercharger for the 4,7 and gained the 100horses difference between the 5.7 and 4.7 but not many people know how to install correctly but i still stand behind my 4.7. my son has ram qc with the hemi it does run strong but my rat motor is super smooth i can set my tea glass on it and never spills a drop but anyway there are times when i want that extra power but i can tow just as much as he can, besides the cummins turbo duallys at our local strip blow us both away- but of course they have trubos--anyway!
