Default Yellow sludge???

So today after work i did my first oil change on my ram.i bought mobil 1 truck and suv oil and a mobil 1 oil filter.so i drained the oil then changed the oil filter, after that i took the oil cap off from under the hood to refill the oil and the inside of the cap & fill tube had a yellow sludge substance all over it.i wiped it off and it looked like yellow grease but could it have been something that was added to the oil before i bought it? This is the first oil change since i bought it. I also want to mention that online it says my 05 4.7 ram takes 5 quarts of oil but it took 6.

It's condensation mixing with oil at the top of the tube, very common and nothing to worry about, as long as the oil looks normal, besides dirty, coming out the pan.

I have NO CLUE where you read 5 qts. online, but the 4.7L V8 takes 6 qts. of oil...

You will notice the yellow crap much more in the fall and spring when you get drastic temp changes. Since you live in MA this is not shocking this time of year.

Check your pcv valve and make sure it rattles when you shake it, if not then replace it (it's cheap and easy).

The FSM officially says 2005 4.7 takes 6.0 quarts (accounts for filter). If you want to see the page, let me know.

It is caused by short trips in cool weather and the oil not getting hot enough to burn off any condensation. A nice 1/2 to 1hr road trip once a month will help keep the moisture out of the crankcase. Also, as mentioned above, make sure your PCV valve is working properly.

It is just condensation, don't worry about it.
