thanks
It wasn't really hard at all and it didn't take any special paints to do it. I started out with the tips that I posted up earlier. Took them off, cleaned them and sanded them down real good, and I mean REAL good. Started sanding with a 120 grit paper to really get the metal down to where it was bare and had some sanding marks left on it. Then I went to a 220 grit paper to smooth off the sanding marks but still leave the metal rough enough to have the paint adhere to it. Now that they were sanded I cleaned them again.

Then came the paint. Started off with just some regular self-etching primer that I had in the garage. One good coat of that was all that was needed. Then I used a fill primer to fill in any imperfections that might have been left from sanding. Sanded that down nice and smooth then just put a few coats of regular old black paint on them followed by a couple coats of clear.

I actually thought they might peel bc I didn't use a special paint for high heat, but they never did. For a while I thought it didn't peel bc I usually run my exhaust through the cutout, but since the summer I have been running it through the tips more since my daughter has been riding with me more. The tips now have about 3000 miles of actual exhaust run through them and they still look good and haven't peeled.

cut'em off and replace with turn-downs on the back of the muffler. makes the exhaust tone louder when you're bouncing it off the pavement beneath you, like driving through a tunnel even when you're not. bad thing is that it'll also be louder inside the cab, but i call that a plus
