Angry Go Figure Bad Stuff Would Happen

Well just got done spending some of my money and bought leveling kit, new shocks for the front and backs..and then after that i bought some hids in the heads and fogs..as soon as i end up buying somethin that i DONT need but just want, somethin major falls apart on my truck..a few days after i got my leveling kit on and alignment i started noticing a clicking and grinding noise on the front end of my truck..so i thought ohh great my wheel bearings went bad..but checked them and they were good, so i took it to a mechanic and he put the truck in the air and walked right to the cv axle and moved it and i have never seen so much play in somethin like that and so he said it needs to get fixed..so he reached over to compare it to the other side and what do you know..it was shot too..so now i gotta have him put two new cv axle halfshafts..so go figure..he told me that my truck had to of been that way for awhile and putting that leveling kit on put it to a different angle and then allowed it to make the clicking noise..well i am glad that it is gonna get fixed but not happy that i hafta spend more money that i didnt want to..

Well he wasnt sure yet on parts..he just looked at it..he said it shouldnt be no more than $80 each for the axles and then labor, which i have no clue how long that would take...and you make a good point too silverbullet..makes me feel a lil better lol

I got lucky. I had mine done while he was doing the 4.56 gears in front. $120 for the pair. Free install cause he already had it apart for the gears.

Sorry bout your luck man... seems to usually happen like that unfortunately.

Just a lil update..after further looking into my problem with my cv halfshaft, the mechanics call me with some more bad news..he said not only are the cv shafts striped but both sides drive axles coming out of the differential are stipped too..i said YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDIN..so i stopped over there after work and sure enough, those axle splines were starting to taper as it went to the end of the shaft..so once again, more money to spend on those axles too..so its roughly gonna be a $600 fix..but really glad i found this and getting it taken care of b4 winter comes along

I dont know how mechanically inclined you are, but a cv axle is really simple to change.

You can take both axels in as cores for re-manufactured ones at your local autozone, advance auto, or o'reilleys.

Just pick up yourself a haynes manual and the axle nut socket.(i think you can even rent a kit from those stores^^^). Like I said even if it takes you a lil monkeying around because youve never done it before, thats still like 400$ you'll save. If you decide to go this route let me know and I can give you some better details.

either way, good luck. ;-)

and P.S. thats bs that they are gonna charge you more for the axle splines, because no shop that ive ever been apart of will repair a CV joint on an old axle. They put in a whole new axle assembly in, not unlike one you can buy at the store, because its cheaper and less time consuming.

Glad I got a 2wd Same front end parts though. Even my hub bearing that failed @ 19K is the same as a 4x4. Rotors are splined for axles as well.
