2006 dodge ram 1500 big horn BRAKES question
Hey all, like the title says I got the 06 ram 1500 big horn and my brakes feel spongy like I have to push the pedal pretty hard to stop, is this the same on all rams ? Or should I bleed my brakes?? Or should I take it to a dealer ship I still have warrenty
06 has Cearmic pads from the factory.
There is no need to bleed your brakes unless you have opened up a brake line.
You need to take a wheel or 2 off and check the pads for wear. My guess is that they are glazed.
If your rotors aren't shimmying when you apply the brakes and they are not grooved up, you can get away with a simple pad swap.
You likely only need pads up front, but i would check the backs for wear as well.

I have never disconnected my brake lines for any reason, i will take off my wheels when i get a chance, I have only hit my brakes hard 1 time, but when i brake going down a hill, i would push my brakes let off then push again, like a pump, and the pedal will get firmer which i feel my truck stops better. Any idea, i only have 35,000 miles on my truck.ill take a look at the pads. Also the rear disc brakes do i need the special ratcheting tool to turn the piston, or can i use a C-clamp, to compress the piston.
I know exactly what you are talking about with the pump once and the brakes firm up. I have ebc slotted discs and ebc green stuff pads on the rear. I am looking to change the front to the same set up because I think the front discs are warped.
For the rear pads I used a c-style vise grip and a old pad to compress the pistons back to fit the new pads. The hardest part about my install was getting the old rotors off the rear. The e brake pads hold the rotor on pretty good. I used a mini sledge hammer and beat the **** out of the rotors to get them off. They didnt pass inspection that is why I replaced them. But I dont think I could have reused the rotors if they were still good from all the dents I put in them taking them off with the mini sledge hammer.

well the pedal just goes far down which i dont like it, im just asking if people have this one their trucks, or it is just mine. The pedal stops the same way if i pump it or not. I just a little skeptical because im used to a FIRM brake pedal.
I got the vise grips at sears. I dont know if the brakes are supposed to work like are, i just know that i dont like a soft brake pedal and letting off then braking again seems to firm them up.
