Horn Honking wont stop?! HELP!!
I woke up this morning to my 03' Ram 1500 honking the horn. It sounds like I am pushing the lock button on the key fob.
It honks once every minuite or so. My neighbor gets up around 3AM and said it was honking then.
I drove to work and everything seems fine. I parked, locked the truck with my key fob and went into the building and waited at the window. Not even 1 minuite went by and "Honk".
What should I do to get it to quit?
The warrenty ran out in march, and this is one of the only problems I have ever had with the truck since 2003 (Knock on wood!).
Thanks for any and all help!
Also, I noticed it is honking when the alarm is not set, and the doors are unlocked and open. It is not re-arming (re-locking), it's just honking.
Thanks again!

I had same problem in an old Ford... It was the copper plates in center of the steering wheel (over the airbags) where too close and arcing. I had to replace the whole airbag unit as it is all one peice assembly. It can also be a short or a bad relay possibly. There is a clockspring wireing harness in the steering column that could be causing it as well. I would take the battery out of your keyfob just to make sure that it isn't acting up, easy and cheep way to test and eliminate that possibility.
I tried the key fob battery, no luck. I keep my truck very clean and don't think anything has ever spilled on the steering wheel. This just started last night. The truck had not been driven for 2 days (sat-sun). Noticed honking around 5AM this morning. wasn't doing it last night.
So the horn hons eitherway, locked or unlocked....???
I'd say clean off the contacts and see if that helps before you spend money on anything. Make sure nothing is loose under the airbag. Pull the battery before you dig in there.

Yeah the Ford I had that this did it too just started out of the blue. No reason just started honking randomly. There are two thin copper plates with dimples in it and a foam sheet with holes that line up with the copper plates. When you push the center of the steering wheel the two plates touch when you compress the foam completing the circut. The foam can tear, deteriorate, or just shift out of place letting the two plates get close enough together to arc. They tend to arc more as the tempature changes. Also there is the clockspring in the column that could be shorting out as well. Not really a hard fix for either but if the copper plates are the problem you will have to get a new airbag assembly and really should have the dealer install and test. I think it was about $500 to have mine done but that was like 10 years ago...

The strange thing is, with the truck running it does not honk. WTF!? I drove it around a couple blocks to see if it would do it while running and nothing. As soon as I turned it off and got out (before I even shut the door) it honked. Again it's not locking the doors or flashing the lights.
Could a worn horn be triggering it? The reason I ask is when I use the fob to lock the doors, the horn sounds alittle wheezy. Like only the "high" horn is sounding. Pushing the horn button it sounds fine.
Just thought any info may help.
Thanks again.

You could just unhook the horn, for a temp fix until you get to the bottom of it so you don't wake the nieghbors up all night. A horn is a simple electrical circuit, just a momentary push button and a horn basically, there can't be too many things that would cause that. Maybe it's the reciever for your keyfob maybe it's dicked up and consantly making contact when the trucks off.
How this was resolved, did you change the air bag (copper plates) or you have changed the clock spring?
My electrician thinks that the problem is with copper plates.
Vehicle was on direct Sun and suddenly late afternoon started honking on the parking, until I disconnected the wires for horn.
Here is the image of copper plates, that are inside of air bag:
