very bad day kind of a rant but i have a serious question
so im driving yesterday and i come to a turn and my power steering basically says f you and doesnt want to work. after avoiding the light pole i got to a second turn and it was completely gone. i get about 1/4 of a mile from my house and the check gauges light dings on. my battery is at zero and i can see my temp rising. i manage to get home before it over heats and i open my hood and there is antifreeze EVERYWHERE. i figure it a hose and ill just deal with it the next day. turns out it my water pump even though i changed it last feb. so im not really worried because it has a life time warrenty on it. while at autozone i figure ill get some oil and change the oil while im at it. i put the new pump on and for whatever reason the pulley is a diff size so i have to get a smaller belt. fine after i finished that fun job i drain the oil change the filter and open my oil cap to refill it and there is this yellowish orangish sludge in the oil cap and it looks like its draining into the oil pan. i have no idea what it is the only thing i got from a friend was it might be my head gasket. any ideas plzz i really dont feel like burying my truck its to young to die and i just dropped like 3 grand in it
thanks in advance guys

But at the same time a lot of guys (myself included) get that build-up residue and condensation at the oil cap. I called Royal Purple about mine and they sent me a test kit and wanted samples. I sent it back off to them and they came back and said everything was normal and that there was a little moisture (condensation) from likely my CAI.
But like xfeejayx said, we do see a lot of threads with guys with 4.7s and head/gasket issues

Condensation/white-brownish sludge is totally normal and should not be a reason to panic.... condensation forms at the highest point of the motor.... your cap. Unless you see water in your oil or on the lower part of the dipstick you are good to go! I have had this discussion with my customers for 13 years now and not once has it ever been a gasket failure, and yes I know it happens but you usaully see it on the dipstick not the oil cap!
