Default Shaved Door Handles

Anybody done this? Is it difficult to do? How exactly do you open your doors once the handles are gone? LOL. I know it has to do with "door poppers", just don't know how they mount.

I figure the same time I do the roll pan install, I'll do whatever other projects, that are gonna require paint. That way, I only have to get it painted once!

If this truck is a DD I personally would not do this mod. Too much to go wrong IMO. If you are getting stuff painted just get the handles themselves painted.

DD? Forgive me but I don't know what that means. LOL.

Is it a quad cab? Yes.

Oh, duh.....yes. It's my Daily Driver. Is it a problem with reliability of the door poppers?

There is a solenoid that is mounted inside the door that is attached to a cable that pulls the connecting rod, and actuates the latch. Then there is also the "popper" that is mounted in the door sill, usually at the bottom back corner that pushes the door open enough for the latch to be free of the striker pin. Relatively simple mod to install. The hardest part is welding in the filler plate where the door handle used to be... and thats because the door skins can warp very easily.

And yes, if the door popper or solenoid go out for some reason you are typically SOL. However a lot of kits come with a fail safe "emergency cord" that you hide somewhere out side of the vehicle so that you can pull it to pop the door open.

Hmm, well in that case I might have to do this mod. The filler plate would be "butt" welded, would it not? Obviously it would be Mig welded. Tig would be too hot. Right?

TIG wouldn't be too hot I don't think... As long as someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to body welding is using it... However It would still probably be MIG welded. That is how we did my buddies S-10. But a good friend of mine who is an expert body man did most of the welding. And it turned out great!

And There is a little ridge that the door handle assembly sits down into, and the filler plate is designed to set into that same recessed ridge. And should flush up with the rest of the door skin.
