Yes, that is what you want to do. The switch provides power when the hodd opens. Otherwise, the lights will saty on all the time.
I plan on wiring like this:

Stock plug----->mercury tilt switch----->lights

Thanks for the pics Hammer.

I have the underhood light, but mine doesn't work and I can't get the case open on it to replace the bulb... I wanted to run led's in mine. Now I havesome of those convenience package options in my truck but not all of them, I have auto dim rearview mirror, the underhood light, the computer and the garage opener, the glovebox light, but I don't have the lit cupholders or ashtray... I was certain this truck had every available option...

I have EVERY single one of them mentioned EXCEPT the programmable garage door opener. I didn't think the overhead computer was available without it, but I ain't got one.

Lights located underhood, cupholder, ashtray, glovebox, mirrors on both visors, a boat load of settings on the overhead trip computer and dimming rearview. But no damn garage door opener!!!

I dont want to buy a light from the stealership just to go out and switch it with an led though, I just want to know that I have the spot for the light to go into and if it is already ready for the light or not... where exactly is the light mounted?

open you cup holder and feel along the top you will feel a hole in the middle. pull the center bezel off and look where the hole would be should be right there.there is a plug to the left of that, that is for the cup holder ash tray light. i would get pics but i have the kids right now

thats fine, I understand, those were good enough instructions for me to understand I think. I will look to see if I have the plug, then I need to find out what size the bulb is so that I know what led to order for it. I have been meaning to order some led's here quick anyway.
