So I'm about to change the transmission fluid in my 2006 ram 1500. I've heard that amsoil is the best to use, but I wanted to get some input from everyone first
I used Valvoline ATF+4 -- $3/qt at Advance. Make sure you get the right flat filter (the spin-on is apparently the same between the 4x2 and 4x4, but the flat filter is different). Sounds like you've done this before, so you know it's a MESSY job, but easy enough.
Some use Amsoil, some use Mob1 but I use RP. Do you know why? Because it is the best you can use and buy.
Seriously though, youre going to get lots of diff answers and opinions on this
+1 on the RP. I never used RP yet but I heard it works wonders.. some of my friends that drive diesel trucks use it and it improved there gas mileage and there shifting was smoother.. but then again that's the diesel world.
IMO, go buy all new bolts for your trans pan. A lot of guys snap the heads off when putting them back in. I replaced all mine with grade 5 bolts and didnt break any going back in.
+1 on the amsoil. my buddy's grand cherokee had a leak caused by a stupid garage and his wife drove it with practically no fluid. he filled it up (after they fixed the leak) and it is still good.
