Default power steering issue

i have tried searching but cant find an answer so here is my question. in the past couple weeks my power steering is acting up. it works fine as long as the engine is above idle but when i turn the wheel at low speeds the power steering quits. it really only happens when im pulling into or out of a parking space or my driveway. i checked the fluid level and it is fine. and the fluid looks like its in good shape. im stumped. any body got any advice?

Yep! Really sounds like you've acquired a bad case of low pump pressure.
How well do you know what type of fluid is in the sys? It has to be ATF+4. No other
PS fluid is to be used.
You'll need to pull a pressure test for flow rate and pressure.
Trucks, 1500 series = 1615+/-65 psi, 3.1 -3.5 gpm @ 1500 rpm.
See if AutoZone will rent you the pres tool.
First, if were me, I would drain and draw as much fluid from the sys and refresh w/proper fluid.
