Get the clips out. The damage comes from the chunks of metal getting into the ring and pinion and causing havoc. You can drive like that for as long as you want to, although personally, I'd get me an Auburn or TruTrac...

i got a question i have a 2wd and i may sound dumb asking but do i have the same issues with it? meaning could this happen to me? i know i hear alot of this with you 4x4 guys but im gonna be dropping my cover prolly in the next week or so when i change my fluids i was gonna go with mobil 1 as thats what i run in my engine i was gonna do both my engine and my rear diff is there anything i should know or expect? im not trying to jack your thread 5.9 just trying to learn more.....

Im not 4wd. Im 2wd and I had the same issue and yes it could happen to you. I do strongly suggest you pull your cover and check. Mine were in peices in the bottom of the diff and not causing any issues. Im sure my stock LSD were fine and would have kept going but I ran across an Auburn and at the time had the money so I changed it out and sold it.
