try replacing the brake bulb. Hopefully that fixes it and your truck isn't stupid like mine.

had the same problem, it was a broken line on the driver side brake light, you know how the bulbs have two wires on either side, well one was busted and randomly lost contact. changed it and all was well. good hunting.

I've go that in my passenger light as well. Switch the bulbs around hoping it was just a fluke in the bulb. It hasn't gone out again yet, but we'll see when it does.

This is a common problem on early 3gen rams , you will need to replace the lamp backs.
This is the assy that holds the rear bulbs , after awhile the bulbs seem to just float
around in the sockets. I tried to do what you are suggesting , when i went to the dealership he siad this is a common problem , they had about 50 in stock , i believe they
cost around $ 20.00

I went through this for about 3 days before I figured it out, I hope.
My story is the same, light would come on and ding intermittantly. Reading on here, I found mention of lights setting off the "lamp out" light that weren't actually burned out. I found the 3rd brake light was black, then after more dinging, I found one of the license plate lights black. Both still working. I replaced them both and still intermittant problems with the warning light.
After it finally sank in that the "lamp out" light would come on and than go out when I hit the brake pedal, I pulled the rear lights and circuit boards out. When I pulled out the circuit board on the rear lights, the lights all looked good. No black and the filaments looked ok. When I pulled the brake light bulbs The pic shows what I found. I am not sure if that was because of a bad bulb or the loose circuit board like rcalbat said.

I am hoping this post will help someone with these problems.

Sounds like a bad contact on the bulb itself.

I had this problem too for months and turned out to be a turn signal bulb going bad. replaced it and no more issues. I would just start replacing bulbs. It can't hurt.

I am having this exact problem. I have replaced the bulbs at least 4 times in my rear right brake light. Is it the entire board or will a good cleaning help the problem?
