Default Rear diff hosed :(

Went in today to get my rear diff fluids changed. The yeh pulled my cover off and was like "oh jeez". He scooped with his fingers, about 5-6 huge chunks of metal. These pieces were the teeth on those gears. Also said something about my posi and a spider something being toast. I can't remember Because I was pissed. Ha!

My poor truck

waiting for Monday to come around to co tact my warranty provider.

Yep, and add a Trutrac or Auburn LSD, too, instead of the factory one.

I take it you never headed the warnings of a few thousand of your fellow Chrysler truck owners who have had their dreaded factory LSD grenade on them?
Anybody with a factory LSD needs to get that summbitch out of there or at least remove the clips before it costs them a couple grand at the dealer!!!

I don't troll enough to figure these things out. I plan on changing that hehe. So can I get a quick description of the 4:10 vs 4:56 gears and why I should choose one over the other? What are the pros on adding the trutrac or auburn LSD?

Well, pro's for the Trutrac or Auburn is that you won't have to worry about you're rear diff blowing up again.

I have read plenty of threads about the factory LSD, but I don't follow on the removal of the clips. Don't they serve a purpose? Are there better replacements (without changing the whole system to Trutrac or Auburn)?

I too would think they are there for a reason. I have the lifetime powertrain warranty, so I'm covered, but I am not quite sure why they are there if it doean't hurt to remove them. I'm sure that Chrysler didn't install them just to fall out and destroy the differential

Although I'd personally get the factory LSD out because the thing is a poor excuse for a LSD anyway, even when not tearing up rear differentials.
As far as the clips go, it is my understanding that they are mainly used for an aide in installation. Many have removed the clips and not had any problems whatsoever over the life of their truck. The LSD even performed just as well as with them.

There are quite a few members who have removed the clips, I'm sure a few will chime in on this discussion...
