Plastic Clearance Issues
Well, last nigt me and a few buddies decided to do some offroad driving and the first stupid idea was a hill climb. I have stock ride height for my 02 which is also 2 wheel drive. The little plastic air dam or whatever the heck its called that hooks to the bottom of the front bumper is now gone because I ended up going back down the hill in reverse and therefore the thing caught on the hill.
Also on the agenda of stupid **** was the trail we decided to go down. There happened to be a big pile of rock and dirt right in the way of the last turn on the trail. I managed to get by but the bottom of my passenger door took a beating it looks like. It may just be mud but I need to wash it off and see how bad the scratches are. Any suggestions for me if that did scratch it? O and also how many of you still have that plastic crap on your front bumper?
Didn't you just start a thread about driving like an idiot ON pavement? Now you are doing it off the road too? Well at least if you drive like an idiot off road, odds are you aren't gonna hurt somebody else.
The lower plastic air dam is there to direct lower air flow up into the radiator for proper cooling, although some have removed it and report no cooling problems, it's not suggested.
My suggestion is to start to respect your truck a little bit. Go back to getting drunk, tipping cows and molesting sheep.
Irresponsible, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son...

Thanks hammer,
I will try and put the thing back on there. I'm just tryin to have fun, but it doesn't ever work in my favor. I'm sure alot of the older guys on here read this and think wtf is wrong with this idiot, is he stupid or something? But in my defense the trail we were on was very narrow and there were three trucks in front of me and 2 behind me so I had to go through to even get out.
edit: this just came to me, if the airdam is so important. how do trucks with aftermarket bumpers like road armor and whatnot keep from overheating? Because none of the bumpers I have seen use the airdam. Just a thought that came to me, I'm not tryin to be a smart ***.

OMG. You did the same thing I did to my silverado a few years back...lol
I went up a super steep hill. So steep that I had to get a running start because my front bumper was scraping the inlcine before my front tires even started to climb the hill. That's how steep this **** was. Anyways, I near ripped off my front lower fascia and then when I got to the top of the hill I went down the backside which was through a field basically. I caught a run of rebar and ran over a couple of bars. No holes in my tires thankfully, but 2 of the bars caught my lower area of the pass side door and rocker panel and made some nice beaty marks down to bare metal.
You just brought me back to old times.
I just used duplicolor touch up paint and just painted the thick grooves the rebar made. had the truck for 2 more years and never had any rusting problems. Blended in pretty good because it was on the lower half of the door and rocker so you had to look for them even though they ran the whole elength of the truck..lol I did end up cracking my bed mount(step-side fiberglass box) but i epoxied that sombiotch back together.
Moral of the story. That was my LAST night ride through the woods. Go in the day when you can see and inspect crap. Also, if you have to force something, it shouldn't be done.

Thats exactly what I did. The **** was so steep my bumper hit before i started up, and my tow package ripped the **** outta the ground on the way back down. Also I just went and put the airdam (whats left of it) back on and had a chance to see the door in the day and it's not pretty. Not only is it scratched but I'm gonna need some dent repair. It looks almost like someone hit it with a sledge.
My only off-road mishap was bending the sh*t out of a front differential on a stump at night in the mid 90s. Wasn't joy riding or anything, just doing about 5 mph coming out of the woods at night after hunting the late afternoon.
I got bad luck with stumps, destroyed the lower end of a Chrysler 90 HP outboard and a fiberglass transom in my first bass boat back in '93. Luckily, I had insurance and got both fixed with only a $100 deductable...

If your 5 buddies drive off of a cliff, you gonna do it too?
Just say no man, you gotta 2wd pavement queen. Treat her as such and she will live a long and healthy life!

Dude it wasn't anything like that. I had a lake to my left and trees to my right I had nowhere to go.
