Default Do lift-kits void warranties?

Do any of you guys have any knowledge on this subject? Personally, I love a lifted truck, probably because my 2nd generation used to be. I've contemplated putting a lift on my new truck, but there are a lot of things holding me back. For one, my monthly payment. But for others reasons there is the fact that ride quality may be compromised and reliability of components can be subject to premature wear and tear. To me, it would seem like a warranty company wouldn't cover a vehicle that was lifted or had over sized tires because of course things may wear quicker than they would if it was in its stock format. If I were to lift it, I'd want a 5" lift with 35" tires. Nothing too crazy, just right. Again, I don't know if I ever would lift it or could even afford it, but I was just curious.

It voids the part of the warranty it specifically effects. Your suspension would no longer be covered. But how would a lift effect your alternator? get it?

What about the drivetrain? Wouldn't an over sized tire on an under geared axle cause excess wear on the transmission and motor? Or how about the power steering pump for having to work harder to turn the big tires? I don't know how people afford to lift their trucks and accept their warranty will not be covering suspension, ball joints, etc.

You gotta pay to play If you can't afford it, don't do it. With that said, I don't know many guys that have had the power steering go out because of a set of 35s.... As far as motor and tranny, those aren't going to go out because of tires.

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act specifically says that the part you used must be able to be proven to cause the failure of the part(s) you seek warranty compensation for.

So, if they can prove your tires caused your tranny to take a dump, then they got ya. But that's gonna be a hard one on 'em...

It's your truck, make it the way you want it! Deal with the warranty crap later if necessary... (maybe I ain't gettin' that old yet...)

If you want to lift your truck then you should lift it. I am of the thinking that you shouldn't allow the warranty dictate how you are going to use and enjoy your truck.

Plus parts are not that expensive if they do break, the labor is what kills ya. The more you can do yourself the better off you are going to be.

Parts can get pretty pricy to. I won't do anything that will void my engine, tranny, transfer, front or rear diff. I did a 2.5" Tbar crank and 35's and fully expect them to honor my warranty. I Just got ASE Certified as of 2 days ago in Automatic Trannies so if they say the warranty isn't covered they will have a hell of time explaining why to me.

Put a 2" leveling kit on and a set of 34-35" tires. It'll look great and be cheaper.
