so ive been searching for a new truck for months now. I have an 04, looking to buy a 06+, but im not seeing prices drop at all. I'm looking to buy a quad cab, hemi, preferably 4x4 with under 50k. Im in MD and the cheapest I'm finding is 18k, but most are 20-24,000. My father bought his 2008 brand new in 09 for 29 off the lot, so im finding mid 20s for a used ram to be a little steap. I was hoping that with the 2010's hitting the streets that would drive prices down a little, but I'm not seeing anything at all. Anyone seen any deals around them? I figure I'll wait till spring and hopefully I'll be able to find a deal around then. and by deal i mean 16-18k for one. I cant see myself spending 20+ because i use it for work and it will get a scratch or two

im sure if you walk into a dealership in you area that is selling one of the trucks you are looking at and ask them what the MANHEIM number is on a similar truck they would be glad to help you. it gives you the price those trucks are selling for on auction not only at one auction but at every auction in your area

You gotta remember every price is negotiable. Especially used! With a NEW truck, they are not making much money. All dealerships make their money on their used inventory ie marking up the price of a trade in. I would do your research and find a truck, talk to sales person and start laying some numbers down. If they don't budge then out the door you go to the next dealer. Your work will payoff, don't worrie.

I guess the prices REALLY vary by area. My cousin in upstate NY bought a NEW '08 off the lot as the new 09's were coming in when the dealer advertised a 50% off sale on remaining '08 inventory. He scored his truck with a $44,000+ sticker for $22k and change.
As far as used trucks go, yeah, I think you are seeing high quite possibly because demand is high in your area. Plenty of '07 QCSB Hemi 4x4s around here for under $20k, and even an '08 here and there you'll see in dealer ads for right at $19,995.
Maybe you need to broaden your search area a bit...

yea ive been seeing that dallas, tx has about the best truck selection out there. its just if i buy a truck out of state, i have to have it MD inspected and pay 6% sales tax, so for a 16k truck, i get to pay another 960, plus $100 to have it inspected, so theres another grand for out of state purchasing.

The dealer or seller is carying the cost of a possible loss from a trade in on a new car or truck, and $$$$$$$$$$ not common sense drives thier greed. Intrest rates on used cars/trucks is also quite high if you don't have the cash to buy out right.
Problem with buying a used 06 when you drive a 04 is down the road the 06 is out of warrenty and if your on a monthly payment plan to drive, you never get right side up.
Thiers verry little demand for used, drive by any car lot in North America and you see more used stuff taking up sapce, Dealers don't make money on used sales, so prices are jacked way up on the off chance some one likes a greasy sales guy with free lube and oreo cookies!!!
Keep what you own now, or buy brand new and do not ever worry abought that D word..Depreacation pays you back over time providing you lucky with your truck.
AS for getting the best deal when buying new, don't ever trade if your up side down.

1) MD is a terrible place to buy a truck. For whatever reason, prices there are high.
2) You have to pay the MD sales tax whether you buy it in MD or not, so that is not a factor.
3) MD inspections do not cost $100, but even if they do... is $100 an issue when you are looking at a $20k purchase?
4) Look for a truck in DE or VA. They're cheaper there.
