Default 2007 RAM 1500 Hitch Questions

Hey everyone, new member here. This is a great forum with tons of useful info. I'm glad I found it.

I need to put a hitch on my 2007 1500 RAM. It's the 4.7 model with the larger wheels. I was directed towards this link on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_2770wt_1064

I'm trying to decide a few things:

1. I can't get an *exact* number of what my truck is supposed to be able to pull.
2. When I find that number I need to choose between a class 3 or 4 hitch (I think?)
3. Does that hitch mount around my spare tire and is it really a 30 minute install?

I want to make sure I'm not stuck with something that doesn't fit or requires modification of my truck to mount.

Any feedback?

Thanks

Alex

Welcome to the forum!!

1. Need more info. Is it a std cab or quad cab. Short or long bed. What gears in the rearend? 2 or 4wd?

2. Factory is a class 4. What do you plan on towing?

3 Yes, mounts to the frame rails. Should bolt up as long as the holes are already in the frame in 30 min.

lxman1,

It's a quad cab, short bed, 2wd, not sure what gears I have.

I plan on towing anything from an ATV trailer to a small boat or trailer/popup.

maybe that will help. I believe it should be a class 3 hitch. Should be bolt on.

Gears are an essential piece of information when determining the tow capacity. Have you looked in your owners manual yet?

I put a hitch on my 07 QC like this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge...item3efa3c2c19
It was a very easy install, and I have pulled at 25ft camper and a 21ft bass boat with it with no problems at all. No mods needed for install and it looks good. Before I bought it I looked under my brothers 04 QC and it is basically the same only mine is bolt on, not welded as his was from factory.

I'm not sure if the same is right for the 07's but pop open the glovebox and there should (at least on mine) be a sticker that tells all about your rear diff and some other info.

After looking under my truck it appears that I have a factory bar that is already installed there. This seems to be supporting the ball mount on the bumper. Is it a matter of adding one of these?

I'm not sure about the fit. Trying to make sure what I get will go on there. This is what my truck looks like:

If you needed the wiring done also, Uhaul would be the best deal. I install hitches and wire everything up, for an average of $300-$350. Of course I dont make that, I only get $15 for 2 hours of work...... lol.

I wouldnt trust it too much, but I think the bumper is rated to pull a couple 1000#'s as is. Ive pulled a couple small trailers by the bumper, but anything real heavy I hook the durango up to it.

P.S. Uhaul has lifetime warranties on all of their installs, lights included, nationwide

Edit: If you have the SLT model, you should have the factory 4-way flat hanging behind the bumper. If its the ST, I dont think the trailer lights came stock, and would have to wired up. No big deal if you have general knowledge and a test light though...
