Default Jet Chip

Hey everyone,
Got some extra spending cash, and i'm trying to decide if a jet chip is a good investment. Autoanything has a 15% off sale going on which would allow me to snag a chip for around 190.

Ive got a few questions...

1) Will the chip void lifetime powertrain warranty? (I've read that it will, and that it wont- I can't get a solid answer)
2) Can I use a stage 1 with my current mods.. I've got a K&N Cold Air Intake along with Magnaflow Cat-back exhuast. I don't really want to get the stage two because of the fuel and temperature requirement.
3) If you have a chip installed now, what is your experience with this product and is it worth it?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

It should not void your warranty due the magnusson-moss act similar to the way an intake shouldn't void your warranty unless they can prove it caused a failure. Stage 1 is what I have and it works fine w/ an intake and exhaust, I didn't want to put premium in or change the t-stat on mine either. I'd say it made a difference, for me it felt like more than my intake since the intake just seemed to bump the powerband up. It's hard to tell w/o a dyno but it felt like it did something.

get a stage 2. trust me. if you don't it's a waste of money.

in regards to "temp" requirement...they told me it doesn't matter. and it doesn't...i haven't even been to the mid-line since i put it on...(which probably isn't good)...but it doesn't ever overheat.

in regards to gas consumption...it's true. i'm rocking like 11mpg or something stupid...lol...but if gas consumption is an issue, stop modding your truck.

if you really want a chip thatll help your truck the most i would go with the diablo chip. my neighbor has one in his dodge charger and it has AMAZING HP cause of it. He said all the other chips are crap compared to the diablo chip and he knows alot about the chips. Ill be sure to buy me one when i have the cash for it.

Nobody tunes the 3.7 ram except for a BG flash or jet chip, SCT custom tune may be possible but you would have to try it to know for sure.

Derrick did you ever have a stage 1? I felt a difference w/ mine and it didn't effect my fuel mileage at all, those requirements and the fact that the stage 1 had a dyno sheet got me over the stage 2 which has no sheet.

never gad a stage 1. can't imagine it doing much. the stage two gave just as much 'power addition' as my headers.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I think I am just going to ditch the jet chip idea. The more I think about it I don't want to throw too much money into my vehicle. The K&N intake had a pretty hefty price tag, and I didn't see much performance out of it, maybe a smidgen. (But it does have a pretty sweet sound)

On the other hand, if they come out with a diablo chip for the 3.7 I think I might have to grab one of those.

@derrick- I do nearly 100% city driving and the best mileage I have seen is 12 (Average is about 11.5) with just intake and exhaust. I really like my truck, but kinda aggravates me that the smaller engine is giving me worse/same mileage as the bigger v8's. My 22's do seem excessively heavy so that might be my problem, and I also have a 120 pound topper on the bed.

That's interesting, how would you list your performance mods best to worst according to the good ol' butt dyno. I kind of wrote off the headers even though the stock manifolds are crap just b/c I didn't want to go through the time consuming install, but if you think they're one of the better mods then I might have to get some.
