I couldn't be happier with my Motive 4.56's (Switched from 3.21's !)

I'll do 500 in parts I have a friend that will do install for free

If he does cam installs you could come in under budget. Gears are going to cost you more than $500 in just parts if you throw a DTT or something like that in the rear.

Comp, Inertia, KRC all make good cams for our trucks. Best cam really depends on what type truck you have (4x4, 2wd, qc, rc) and what you are looking for from your truck (low end torque or high end hp)

He has a 2500 and doesn't have the 1500 rear end issues. Gears would be less than $500 and a lot less work to install. But a cam would be great if he has free installation

great low end torque cam is the comp 260. but, a torque converter is less than $500 and will get you some pretty good gains as well. might be easier to install as well.
