Default Best Tuner for Towing

I will appologize in advance for asking a question that has probably already been asked before but a quick search for "tuner" and "towing" yielded hundreds of results and unfortunately I don't have the time to go through them all.

So here goes.

I have an '05 1500 Hemi 4X4 w/ 20" wheels, 3.92 gears. I am towing a 5klb travel trailer and looking to get a little more power for towing it. I have an aftermarket exhaust but no CAI.

Will a tuner give me a little more punch and driveability when towing this load? Which tuner would be best?

Thanks!!

The only tow tune I'm familiar with is the Superchips, not sure if Diablo offers a tow tune or not. The tune on the SC is pretty good, not dramatic, but noticeable.

IMO the most bang for towing would come from upgrading to 4.56 gears, although 3.92s are ok (3.55s would suck big time), the biggest upgrade you could do to actually feel a big difference would be to re-gear. Of course yielding the best results, it would also be the most expensive option as well...

I'vehad both the sc and the diablo. I am not really impressed with either as far as added power for towing. I suppose the sc tune did hold the gears a little longer and that was nice.

Thanks guys for the replies. I would love to do the gears but I have a 4X4 and I don't think $2K for gears is in the budget :-(

Anyone else out there have any experience with the SC towing tune?

I tow well over 5000 lbs and noticed a big difference on my 4.7.

Then you ain't lookin in the right places. Going rate is about $600 an axle for gears, install kit and labor. Now that's not saying $1200 is in your budget either, but it's a far cry from $2000.

Thanks Hammer. No, I have not actually priced them locally - just went off some prices I saw stated on here. Sadly though, $1200 isn't in the budget either.

I thought that the owners manual specifically states to not run 93 tune when towing?? I'd hate to see you hurt anything.

Gears and Hammer....Surprised to not hear you say LongTube headers. They will certainly help, but are going up in price and install is a PIA.

Gas engines dont get power like the diesels do from tuners. Don't expect to gain a ton just from a tuner. While 15hp may sound like a bit, it's not much when running the butt dyno.
