Muffler
amen brother!
I just got a dynomax bullet put on my truck and it sound great. It so loud when you have the windows down but pretty quiet inside. I had a flowmaster on my chevy and it droned so bad in the cab, but with this set up it sounds great. its a single 3" pipe in a si/si dynomax bullet with a 3.5" tip in the stock location.
Yeah I hear ya guys, it's one of those things where if ya want it loud you should be prepared for it to be loud inside the cab. I really wish the cut-out worked out for me but something about it just didn't sound good to me. I liked the magnaflow pretty good but my brother was constantly picking on me for it lol. Now that he's sold his goofy F-350 and owns a new hemi he knows why I appreciated the sound of my hemi with the magnaflow. Maybe I should just get that magnaflow back on there and get over it that it's not going to make a scene like a flowmaster but at least it will compliment the nice ride of the truck.
Going to have to disagree with both of you on this one. YES you can have a loud muffler and have it be loud outside and quiet inside, you just have to run it correctly. Muffler type, muffler placement, pipe exit, and pipe length all play in as to how it is going to sound inside and outside the truck. For example, if the muffler was placed so that it is UNDER the cab of the truck with short pipes its going to be loud as hell outside and inside, if the pipes extend further back its going to get quieter outside and slightly less noisy inside. If the muffler was placed as far back as possible so it is NOT under the cab and the pipe length was shorter coming off the muffler then you would have a louder muffler outside and a lot less noise inside. Pipe exit is also a factor on how loud it is, dual out the back is going to be quieter than out the side before the rear wheels, dumped over the axle (NOT POINTING TO THE GROUND) is going to be quieter yet.
My muffler is a loud muffler BUT it is not noisey inside the cab, it is very loud outside though. My muffler is just before the axle so it is not under the cab, has a short 2ft length of pipe coming off it and is dumped over the axle pointing out not at the ground. the result is a nice loud mean sounding exhaust with a quiet cab ride (well... before the headers were put on but thats a different can of worms).
Also, you can alter the sound of your exhaust by adding a CAI and/or headers. With my original setup after installing a CAI the exhaust note sounded a lot deeper and more aggressive than it did with the stock box/resonator on. Headers just plain and simple make the exhaust really mean and more like muscle car.
Another way you can keep your truck quiet is to go Dynomat it. Put a layer under tha carpet, headliner and in the doors for inside and outside you can out it under your hood and I've heard, if you have enough room, you can put some under the cab by the exhaust pipe and it should quiet it down quite a bit. May be a good investment if you are that concerned about it being to loud.

To an extent that's true. I think the Dynomat might really work. However, as far as the placement of the muffler he tried that on his last truck if I remember correctly and still didn't like it. I think you can get it quieter by changing the placement of the muffler as my exhaust is very loud outside the truck but not too bad in the truck. Others have been very surprised when riding in my truck after hearing how loud it was on the outside. However, it's still louder than stock inside the cab and probably a lot louder than he wants since he has tried the same muffler. My old setup was about as loud outside and still even quieter inside but it wasn't stock quiet and you still heard it quite a bit.
Yeah, Joe, wtf. Lol. You cant really have both brah! Lol. Cutout!? Did not like it? Thats what you are asking for here.. right? Quiet and loud? I dont get it.
dynamat your cabin. theres tons of knock off companies on ebay that do just as fine. i had a magnaflow that was perfect for me, quiet when cruising on the highway, but loud when i stepped on it. and the further away from the cabin the muffler is the quieter
