Transmission Problems
I've seen people say that Dodge transmissions go after 50k miles. Seeing as how I'm at 25k I'm really curious if there is any truth to this. Anybody got any comments? Sorry if this is a re-post.
the older trannys were natorious for failing. the newer 545RFE tranny that goes in the auto's and the 48RE that lives behind the Cummins are greatly improved and last longer.
personally I could care less if they last 50k or 80k or whatever, as long as it is covered under my chrysler 7/70 or x-tended warranty it wont matter anyway since I will trade out of it by 85,000 miles anyway! TEAR IT UP! WooHoo!
It would be, but who says it goes out before the 70k, maybe it lasts until the 80k limit. I'm just wondering if there is any truth to it. Even if they fix it, i don't want to have to deal with my tranny going out.
Uh, I got a 93 dakota 5.2 4x4 with 207k+ on the original tranny. Been all over the country and Canada in it. Still works good--no slippage, burnage, or "I give up" yet
Put it this way, I have 48,000 miles on my Hemi and im on my third transmission. Frankly, i dont care one bit seeing as how by the time my warranty is up i will have a fully built transmission to handle the power of an STS Turbo system.

yeh hemiram, what are you doing/pulling that you are killin the tranny so often? Or have you just fallen victim to the moron mechanic syndrom(couldnt fix his hair right much less a transmission). I had a '96 dodge that I took back to the dealer(in warranty thank god) 3 times within 15,000 miles for them to replace the power steering unit and it never did get fixed right before I traded it off for something else.
I have an 02 4.7 QC. it has the new trans (45rfe). It went into limp mode at 38K, meaning it wouldn't shift up or down, locked into 3rd. Since my truck was bought in Jan 02 it was not covered by the 7/70 (per Dodge they didn't start that until June). They replaced the trans PCM and a solenoid pack in the trans. for $750. I did get them to pay half since it took 2 weeks and I got a little irate. It has been perfect for the last 10K. I love the truck but I do wonder if it is going to last. BTW, the check engine light spit out a code so I thought great, I'll go buy the sensor it was reffering to. Turns out the code doesn't distinguish between a defective sensor or an abnormal condition the sensor was monitoring, I wasted $60 on a new sensor (line pressure sensor on trans). Moral: don't trust vague check engine codes. Of course since the dealer was throwing parts at it, they would have done the same thing probably.
