NC inspections range from 10 to 30 dollars, depending on the county you live in. Mine is 10, and I have a cool shop that doesn't look at my windows!

Damn Steve, where did you find that? I looked at the DMV website and the laws and never saw that, either it is new or more likely I must have missed it. But even though, it still doesn't saw anything about having the cutout on your truck, just that it is illegal to use it on the road. I know CT doesn't have any official inspection, just what they do during the emissions test. I know when I had my old car, all they did was hook it up to their computer and ran it for what they need and that was it. They never looked at or inspected anything else. But that was 5 years ago, so I don't know if anything was changed since then.

I googled ct exhaust laws and ran across another forum and someone copied and pasted the law onto their post. Their post was in April of '08 I believe so I'm not sure if it is still valid. Seems like it's up to the officer on whether or not it creates too loud of a noise. So it's their discretion.

What exactly do they do on the emissions test? I know they didn't raise my truck in the air and look under it but I'm not sure if they just knelt down and looked under it themselves in order to see if everything was there or something was missing/added onto.

I don't know. I suppose I'll find out in a few months, as I'm due for emissions this year.

We've been through this before, but I still don't understand....

How can Northern VA have different inspection standards than "southern" VA? Down here the only thing required is the cat. But, the fuzz can and will pull you for "noise ordinance". Hell, as matter of fact, we can have a cat-only exhaust setup, but not a muffler-only setup, has to have a cat. I haven't heard of anything agaisnt cutouts, but then again I don't even know anyone with a cutout, lol.

Too many of those fancy Beemers and 'Cedes up there, thats yalls problem

It's not unheard of for states to have more than one set of standards. PA has different emission testing for the counties surrounding Philly compared to the outer rural counties.

Well, I guess (think) Im right and wrong, Haha. Hell, I don't have a clue now.....

46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

No person shall drive and no owner of a vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any such vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise; provided however, that for motor vehicles, such exhaust system shall be of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make

^^ Came from Ls1tech. Just did a quick search. From what those boys, and this says, technically anything other than OEM is illegal. Also, as you said Teach, different counties will have different inspection standards, and some will have emmissions as others don't. Not that Im in real small hicktown, but it's nothing like Northern VA, population wise (or any other way really), so maybe its the more populated areas that get hit with the emissions and stricter inspections? Or, like 'Frog said a while back, all the damn liberals up there
