Why didn't you get a diesel?

The truck I bought at a deal of a lifetime didn't care that it was gas at all. Although if I were to go diesel it sure as hell would be a Ford or possibly a GM. Why? I hate the sound of a cummins. I have heard many different exhaust setups they all sound like damn tractors. Sorry but I will sacrifice the aparent cool factor that comes with the cummins for something that if properly modified will last good and sound way better.

We have had a 6.0 for ~240k kms or ~150 k miles. Head gaskets toasted but were covered under warranty. Other than that the truck has been great with light mods it runs 14.4 in the 1/4. I guess some are just hit and miss like that. I wanna see what the new ford 6.7 does. If it proves good in the first 2 years well I might have found me a new truck.

didnt want to listen to my brother. he insisted and insisted. but i figured i didnt need that big of a truck. boy was i wrong. would love to have that extra power and mpgs. should have gotten a reg cab diesel and just made it fast as hell. add a simple chip and 100 to 300 + hp! (maybe more) worst decision not buying a diesel. dont want to mod my hemi to much due to it not being my dream truck. live and learn i guess

Wanted one, actually set out to get one. I've had one before and wanted another one. No real need as I've always had a separate daily driver from my lifted 4x4 truck and have never really towed anything heavier than a bass boat on a regular basis.
While shopping at different dealers I found about a $9000 differnece in sticker price. No problem, until you looked into it farther.
Of the three dealers I went to, NOBODY was willing to drop one dime off sticker on a CTD and NO rebates! However, on a 1500 Hemi, there was a $3000 rebate from Chrysler rite off the bat. So now, the diesel is $12000 more. In negotiating with the dealer I could get them to discount the 1500 another roughly $4500, so now the 1500 is costing $16500 less. On top of that there was an additional $1500 rebate if you financed a Dodge 1500 with chrysler.
So, when all was said and done, a CTD 2500 SLT with a sticker price of only $9000 more than a 1500 Hemi Laramie was in actuality going to cost me $18,000 more!
There was no way in hell I could justify paying that much more for a diesel I didn't need in the first place. Hell, I could buy myself a hell of a daily driver for what the difference was, which is just what I did. Picked me up a mint condition '02 Grand Cherokee Overland to use as my daily driver and still didn't spend as much for a new QCSB 4x4 Hemi 1500 Laramie and the Grand Cherokee as just the CTD would have cost...

they most definatly get better fuel mileage. when this baby was stock it was getting about 24-25 with just a programmer. i wanted a 6 speed too, only because i didnt want to drop 6 grand on a billet trans, much rather spend 2200 on a clutch and be done...but i did it and dont have to worry about it and im happy with the auto now, shifting in town does get tiring after awhile... and for the note that they last longer i would be weary of buying a 150 thousand mile gasser, but wouldnt think twice with a diesel.
