DF!!!!! OK so I am going to be doing work under the hood once it warms up. I looked under there today and it is really dirty When I go to wash under there is the anything I should cover from water I know no water in the intake. But is there anything els. What would you use to clean under there I have used Purple Power and it worked good but anything els out there and can I use a brush to really get the gunk off

 

cover electonics, alternator ext,

 

just dont spray anything-do it all by hand with a damp rag or something

 

Make sure the motor is cool of course. Either purple or simple green, they also have foaming engine cleaner at the auto parts store. I've done it 4 or 5 times now myself and all I do is make sure not to get it in the intake. I've covered the motor, alternator, everything with the hose, sprayed everything down and rinsed it off no problems. Right afterwards, I turn it on and have had zero issues with doing any of it.

You gotta think, you drive in the rain right??? Just my thoughts.

I do it when it's cold. I've always been told that's a good way to crack the block. Warm motor, cold water. But I may be wrong, that's just what I've always been told.

 

at a car wash the water is warm....thats y they do it running

 

I wouldnt recommend using a pressure washer. The stuff I use, which the name escapes me at the moment, recommends you get your engine up to running temp, spray it on, wait a few minutes, and use a hose to clean it off. it works great. I would use something that works like this....

 

ok yes engine will be cold when i do this heard the same thing hot engine cracked block. and cwboyjohnny24 yes u drive in the rain but with the hood on I hope so there are somehtings that dont normaly get wet. No pressure washer just a plain hose

 

I use a pressure washer and I run my engine while I do it, I also have a very heavy duty degreaser that most people wouldnt have the foggiest idea as to how to find or how to use. My degreaser makes the enginebrite stuff at the autoparts stores seem like it does nothing, but of course its the same degreaser we use on the semi-trucks, as long as you keep your engine running, dont let it run to long and get too hot, just running and dont spray directly into the intake, onto electronics, or any hoses that seem weak or have cracks or tears(which should be replaced anyways)
