Looking to get 1st RAM. Some ?'s on Mega Cab
id say if you want mpg's buy a lighter truck.. my mega 1500 hemi has the 3 1/2 axle. think the steering stabilizer in a 08 is different also, a upgrade. mine is a 07. But i had a 02 quad cab 4x4 1500 4.7 and it didnt get any better mileage than my mega. But u cant beat the room of the mega cab. i love my truck. not shure what gears i have, how do i find out? id say if u are going to tow a bunch with heavy loads then get the cummins.
get the cummins in a mega cab, my uncle had a lifted 1500 mega with a 6" lift and 35" tires and it was a DOG, pulling a trailer was unimaginable, it got 11 mpg on good days, a gas engine just isn't big enough, its like buying a ford f-350 with the v8 5.4 engine that comes in the f150, it's a waste of a truck IMO. id wait for the 2010 new style, it sucks buying something new when a week later the newer version comes out.
alrighty....i use to have a a quadcab and couldnt see the use of a mega cab, although the extra room would be nice. after purchasing one....im in love with it! deffinatly very happy with my choice of going to the MC. as you already asked and it was answered, the 1500 mega will have a sold axle up front. now this is just my opinion, but i wouldnt deffinatly opt for the cummins turbo diesel. a lot more power and a lot better gas mileage...like one the other gasser MC owners said, hes lucky to get 14mpg on the highway....when it was stock, but chipped...i was seeing 24mpg, and im pushing 40" tires and still see 19mpg. but then again that extra few grand buys a lot of fuel lol. heres my baby
the difference in the 1500 vs the 2500 is ...more payloade, bigger front springs and more leafs in the rear and also a thicker frame. the 1500 will be smaller in all of those things. and yes big +1 on the size for kids .i put a roof flip down dvd plater for my little one with some wireless headphones ...perfect
Thanks all for the inputs!
And thanks for the MDS comment. That was going to be my next question. Someone made the comment that the 2500 has the CTD while 1500 hemi. Didn't the 2500's come with a Hemi option as well?
Yes I would love to get the Diesel (especially since we were going to get a Silverado 2500 with Dura/Ally combo). But as mentioned we put that off for a couple 2 or 3 years since we're looking to move now. In the meantime we were looking for a bigger truck. Unfortunately the Diesel avenue would add at least another $10k to the price we're seeing on a particular '08 1500 MC 4x4. WIth this truck we wouldn't be towing anything other than a small open trailer with some dirtbikes/quads or a boat. When we do move to a 5th wheel or TT, we'd also upgrade to the Diesel.
MMstar - Beautiful rig you got there!
Thanks again everyone.
