I did not use air bags, only the Equal-i-zer and towed a 7000lb 16ft cargo trailer from Vandenberg afb, ca to here in minot, nd (2400 miles) with ZERO issues...towed like a dream.

So in summary, go with the WDH for sure, and bags are an option, but not entirely necessary.
I used to tow with my 96 V10 2500 with no airbags but with WD, and I agree the WD is more valuable than the airbags. If it was a choice between the two, WD definitely. Airbags are more useful for gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers than bumper pulls with WD, they actually kind of overlap/redundant in the weight/axle aspect. I disagree about WD and sway, to a point. It does not eliminate it, but it does help a bit, agreed the sway bar would be better (though still not eliminating it). I haven't used a sway bar with my old rig, as it was ok towing a 24' bumper pull camper. I use the Reese torsion WD kit, and like it alot. I may look into a sway bar for use with the new rig as I'm hoping to do a lot more traveling with the camper now that I'll at least get double digit mileage (unlike the V10's mid single digit mpg).

And also thank you AF_HEMI

Well, if you read my first post...I did my math wrong. It was a long day but thats no excuse. I stated that the weight of the van was just over 6000lbs and the trailer was just over 2000 lbs. I WAS WRONG! The total weight of the van is just over 4000lbs so with the trailer...I will be towing just over 6000 pounds total. So, I will for sure get the air bags, but the WDH is now only a slight posibility.

picking up a superchips tuner might not be a bad idea to help with the tow and then you got it so wth....just dont tow on the 91 tune use the tow tune for that distance....good luck and we salute you....

I would like to thank each and every one of you here that gave me a thumbs up/salute for my service with the military. Despite your feelings about how the country is run or the choices that are made, the troops sacrifice and sometimes pay the ultimate price. I know there are a few of us military here on the DF and I am sure that I can speak on their behalf as well as my own and say...Thank you for the kind words. It really means a lot.

So, tomorrows lunch break will be spent ordering the air bag kit and trans temp gauge! I just bought some tow mirrors from Scary Guys so that should be here in a few days too!!

Well, now its about 3 months away. I still have everything to get done to the truck except for the tow mirrors...I did those a few weeks ago. Tonight I called Dodge Corp. to get a def answer as to what I can tow at the max. Dodge told me the max is 8550 lbs with my options and everything else. Good thing I called them too!

Also, I have recieved lots of "get a WD hitch" and "dont waist your money" opinions. As always, I trust all of your opinions here in DF the most and I am going to get one. Also, because the manual said so, I will be getting one. It said that I need to have 10% of my load on the hitch. If I am towing +/- 8000 lbs, then that would be around 800 lbs on my hitch, and the book says to use a WD hitch for anything over 350 lbs on the hitch. So, the point of this long post is that reading the book is sometimes a good thing!

Good luck and enjoy the drive. Contrary to what Washington would have us believe, it's still a beautiful country, inhabited mostly by Americans. Thank you for serving and keeping us safe.

How did you stand it being in DC? Were you at the puzzle palace or the actual base? DC is definitely somewhere I don't want to be stationed. Good luck with the drive!
