How does leveling kit work??
Hey guys.. Just wanted to know if anybody knew the theory behind the leveling kits.. I know they are torsion bar keys that are cut differently to allow more lift.. But you can achieve the same thing with just cranking them. Is the leveling kit any better? Does it ride differently than a cranked setup? And a big one.. Does it change the angles of your CV axles? I have broken one and really don't feel like having to do another one.. Broke the axle with the T-bars cranked.
Just curious to see what you guys thought.
Thanks

In my opinion, ride quality and cv angle is exactly the same whether you use new keys or not. either way there is more tension on bars, and the same angle on cv's. AND you can lift TOO much with either one and put your cv's in a dangerous position.
Okay. Now let me ask this.. Is having the front end level putting too much angle on the cv's? I mean the truck is an 03.. And I just got it in July and idk what the pervious person had done to it.. But idk if it was just a coincidence or what.. but I had it about level and I pulled my buddy out of a mud hole when he got stuck (that was the only time the truck had been off road since I had it) and like 2 weeks later when we finally got snow my axle broke. But when we pulled it apart there was no clip holding the axle in the diff housing.. Idk.. I lowered it back down and left it alone and I want to either get a leveling kit or just jack em back up.. Just kinda nervous
How can you really tell if the angles are too steep? I mean the truck doesn't get used in 4x4 a lot.. but when I do need it I don't want to have to worry about breaking stuff...
ok here is an old thread but in it is a good pic of some cvs, this pic will show you about the max you should go, maybe a little steeper but not much. also some good info for you in this thread.

Will do. I will probably re-crank them tomorrow when I re-install my throttle body spacer.. Is yours just leveled as far as lift goes?
