Its going to be the Spartan Cam which is a 214/218 duration cam, what I need to find out though is what lsa I want to put it on and if I want to do a *(+/-) to get the most out of it. From the way I understand it the lower the lsa the lopier the idle and more peak power you get but the powerband is really narrow, while on the other hand the higher lsa gives you a less lopey idle and not as much peak power but instead a fatter powerband/tq curve which is better for a street/strip vehicle.

I know quite a few guys running them in their quadcabs and they are performing great (Chris 03ramit1 has one in his quadcab and along with his other mods his truck is the fastest quadcab in the us running a 12.73@105mph and chefred has one in his truck and with his mods he is running a13.08@102.17 )

I think you understand of LSA is about like mine but I also think the lower LSA moves the power band down in the lower RPM range also. Thats why the Sidewinder with 14 LSA starts at 3500 whereas the 210 with 110 starts at 2500.

But hey, dont hold me to it because im still tryin to figure it all out myself

A shorter LSA tends to give you a peakier power band, whereas a larger LSA tends to give you a flatter torque curve and a smoother idle. This doesn't directly translate into one LSA yielding more peak torque than another, it just describes the characteristics of the torque curve. Typically, a larger LSA will tend to produce more torque early on.

i agree with everything said here... except that yes, the lower lsa #s also give you more peakier torque. its more of a mt peak than a rolling hill. also brings peak torque to a lower rpm as well. it increases peak torque and narrows the power band whereas a high lsa, 114 for instance, gives you a broad power band with less impressive dyno numbers, but a nice consistant dyno graph. heres a good link from comp cams explaining what cam timing and lsa #'s do for your powerband.
